But the fate of the three women, who haven&#8217;t been heard from in about two weeks, remains a mystery and has garnered relatively little publicity.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI said Friday it is aware that two sisters from Pe\u00f1itas, a small border city in Texas near McAllen, and their friend have gone missing. Pe\u00f1itas Police Chief Roel Bermea said their families have been in touch with Mexican authorities, who are investigating their dis<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earance.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond that, officials in the U.S. and Mexico haven\u2019t said much about their pursuit of Maritza Trinidad Perez Rios, 47; Marina Perez Rios, 48; and their friend, Dora Alicia Cervantes Saenz, 53.<\/p>\n<p>The episode stands in stark contrast to the government and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> frenzy over <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/mexico-americans-kidnapped-killed-north-south-carolina-f77a0d1d0cc60a1efa7adb37a73428a2\" data-ylk=\"slk:the abduction of four Americans;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">the abduction of four Americans<\/a> on a road <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a> to Mexico for <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/mexico-medical-tourism-us-overseas-2abf4d198a3bbad9260bfd9d52067ba2\" data-ylk=\"slk:plastic surgery;cpos:4;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">plastic surgery<\/a>. They were caught in a drug cartel shootout in the border city of Matamoros, and video showed them being hauled off in a pickup truck. The two survivors were found Tuesday in a wooden shack near the Gulf coast.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Customs and Border Protection says the three women crossed into Mexico on Feb. 24, a Friday, according to Bermea. Pe\u00f1itas is just a few hundred feet from the Rio Grande River.<\/p>\n<p>The husband of one of the women spoke to her by phone while she was traveling in Mexico, the police chief said, but grew concerned when he couldn&#8217;t reach her afterward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince he couldn\u2019t make contact over that weekend, he came in that Monday and reported it to us,\u201d Bermea said. The three women haven\u2019t been heard from since.<\/p>\n<p>Bermea said the women were traveling in a green mid-1990s Chevy Silverado to a flea market in the city of Montemorelos, in Nuevo Leon state. It&#8217;s about a three-hour drive from the border. Officials at the state prosecutor\u2019s office said they have been investigating the women\u2019s disappearance since Monday.<\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s massive search for the four kidnapped Americans involved squads of Mexican soldiers and National Guard troops.
