Everyone wants to be first. When it comes to re-opening movie theaters this summer, Warner Bros. has been hogging most of the limelight, with\u00a0Tenet<\/em> still poised to open on July 17. But\u00a0Tenet<\/em> isn\u2019t going to be the first new movie this summer. There\u2019s the Russell Crowe movie\u00a0Unhinged<\/em>, which is set for a limited release on July 1. And now Sony is throwing their hat into the ring with\u00a0Broken Hearts Gallery<\/em><\/strong>, a film they\u2019re now branding as \u201cthe first major studio wide release of the summer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sony Pictures hopes to be the trendsetter for the summer with\u00a0Broken Hearts Gallery<\/em>, a film written and directed by\u00a0Natalie\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>Krinsky<\/strong> and executive produced by Selena Gomez<\/strong>. Here\u2019s the synopsis:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\nWhat if you saved a souvenir from every relationship you\u2019ve ever been in?\u00a0The Broken Hearts Gallery<\/i>\u00a0<\/span>follows the always unique Lucy (Geraldine Viswanathan), a 20-something art gallery assistant living in New York City, who also happ<\/a>ens to be an emotional hoarder.\u00a0 After she gets dumped by her latest boyfriend, Lucy is inspired to create The Broken Heart Gallery, a pop-up space for the items love has left behind.\u00a0 Word of the gallery spreads, encouraging a movement and a fresh start for all the romantics out there, including Lucy herself.\u00a0<\/span><\/u><\/u>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Geraldine Viswanathan<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span>Dacre<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Montgomery<\/strong>, Utkarsh\u00a0<\/span>Ambudkar<\/span><\/strong>, Molly Gordon<\/strong>, Phillipa Soo<\/strong>, Suki Waterhouse<\/strong>, Arturo Castro<\/strong>, Ego Nwodim<\/strong>, Taylor Hill<\/strong>, and Bernadette Peters<\/strong> star. The plan is to release the film on July 10<\/strong>, which would give it a jump on\u00a0Tenet<\/em>, opening July 17.<\/p>\n

I understand people\u2019s concerns regarding returning to activities we all loved prior to COVID-19. I hope everyone will listen to scientists\u2019 recommendations and consider others\u2019 health and safety while enjoying the movie theater experience,\u201d said Executive Producer Selena Gomez.<\/p>\n

Writer-director Natalie\u00a0<\/span>Krinsky added: \u201c<\/span>I am beyond thrilled Sony has defined our relationship by bringing\u00a0<\/span>The Broken Hearts Gallery<\/i>\u00a0<\/span>into the world. Getting a film made \u2013 especially your first \u2013 is like finding a soulmate: years of heartbreak and (maybe) ultimate triumph. In this moment of distance, it feels good to fall in love. I can\u2019t wait for audiences to (safely) see it in theatres.\u201d<\/u><\/p>\n

Movie theaters have been shut down due to the coronavirus, but little by little, they\u2019re starting to reopen again. The problem, though, is that there\u2019s nothing new to screen. Studios have shuffled and pushed back their films, with some titles even being pushed into 2021. As of now, the first new movie scheduled to hit theaters is in the indie thriller\u00a0Unhinged<\/em>, starring Russell Crowe, set to open July 1.<\/p>\n
