The problem, however, is that there typically aren&#8217;t any symptoms in its early stages. That makes the early detection of lung cancer all the more important.\n                                                <\/p>\n<p>One way to achieve this is by screening those who are at high risk for lung cancer (people over age 50 who smoked one pack of cigarettes per day for 20 years or half a pack per day for 40 years) with an annual low-dose computed tomography (CT) scan.<\/p>\n<p>If the CT scan finds an abnormality in a patient&#8217;s lungs, a bronchoscopy is <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly recommended. During this common procedure, a doctor guides a thin tube equipped with a light and camera (bronchoscope) through the patient&#8217;s mouth or nose and into the lungs to obtain a tissue sample.<\/p>\n<p>But there have been advances. Today, Yale Medicine physicians use a new form of <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> called &#8220;robotic bronchoscopy,&#8221; which allows them to better reach smaller parts of the lungs. During a robotic bronchoscopy, the doctor uses a controller at a console to operate a robotic arm, which then guides the bronchoscope&#8217;s thin, flexible tube through the airways.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With the regular bronchoscope, we can reach 20 to 30% of the airways, but with the robotic bronchoscope, we can reach 95% or more,&#8221; says Christopher Morton, MD, a Yale Medicine interventional pulmonologist. &#8220;The precision of the robot allows the tube to navigate tight turns and hard-to-reach areas of the lungs in order to obtain a biopsy of the lung tissue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"mb-4\" itemscope=\"\" itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/VideoObject\"><meta itemprop=\"name\" content=\"How robotic bronchoscopy helps diagnose lung cancer\"\/><meta itemprop=\"url\" content=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch\/?v=HVgR5moqPZg\"\/><meta itemprop=\"description\" content=\"Credit: Yale University\"\/><meta itemprop=\"uploadDate\" content=\"2023-03-16T06:58:55-04:00\"\/><meta itemprop=\"embedUrl\" content=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HVgR5moqPZg\"\/><meta itemprop=\"thumbnailUrl\" content=\"https:\/\/img.youtube.com\/vi\/HVgR5moqPZg\/maxresdefault.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\n             <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Robotic Bronchoscopy for Lung Biopsy - Yale Medicine Explains\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HVgR5moqPZg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><figcaption class=\"text-darken text-low-up mt-4\" itemprop=\"caption\">Credit: Yale University<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But neither type of bronchoscopy is able to collect a sample from lymph nodes around the lungs and airways, which are important places to check for cancer and to determine if it has spread.<\/p>\n<p>For that, doctors will perform an endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely after the bronchoscopy.
