Kirk on the original 1966 <em>Star Trek<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    During his keynote interview at South by Southwest in Austin on Thursday, Alamo Drafthouse founder Tim League asked Shatner about how he got his career-changing gig. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cTalent,\u201d Shatner initially deadpanned, to audience <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lause, but then he told the story. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    As all <em>Trek<\/em> fans know, Jeffrey Hunter was cast in the NBC show\u2019s first attempt at a <em>Star Trek<\/em> pilot, \u201cThe Cage,\u201d as Captain Christopher Pike. \u201cJeffrey Hunter, good-looking guy, he was quite a name,\u201d Shatner says. \u201cThey presented the pilot to NBC and then there\u2019s that moment when the gods \u2014\u00a0and, in this case, NBC executives \u2014 decide to buy or not to buy. To buy, or not to buy, that is the question! They said, \u2018No, we\u2019re not going to buy it, because we don\u2019t like it. But we like the idea. So rewrite, recast and we\u2019ll give you the money to do it.\u2019 I\u2019ve never heard of that happening before or since.\u201d (To be fair, it\u2019s actually happened many times since). <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cSo they went around looking for a new captain,\u201d Shatner continued. \u201cI was in New York doing some work. They called me and said, \u2018Would you come and see the pilot?\u2019 With the idea of me being the captain. And I watched the pilot [and thought], \u2018Oh my God, that\u2019s really good. Why didn\u2019t they buy it?\u2019 Yet [the actors] were a little ponderous. Like, [<em>soberly<\/em>] \u2018Helmsman, turn to the Starboard.\u2019 You\u2019ve been out five years in the middle of space, wouldn\u2019t you say, [<em>casually<\/em>] \u2018Hey, George, turn left\u2019? \u2018There\u2019s a meteor coming!\u2019 \u2026 \u2018Well, get out of the way!\u2019 So I added a little lightness. Then it sold. And that\u2019s the answer.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Shatner also said his worst \u201crole\u201d ever was one time when he attempted to give a stand-up comedy performance as Captain Kirk, with the joke being that Kirk would say cliche one-liner jokes and not understand why he wasn\u2019t funny. Yet the bit bombed spectacularly. \u201cIt was probably the the worst thing that ever happened to me,\u201d Shatner said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    League also asked how Shatner would deal with somebody talking or texting during a movie in a theater. \u201cShut the fuck up!\u201d Shatner roared, then proceeded to talk about the benefits of the f-bomb for getting people\u2019s attention.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    During the interview, Shatner came across decades younger and sharper than his age might suggest, occasionally standing and energetically pacing the stage while telling an anecdote.\u00a0At the end of the keynote, the crowd gave him a standing ovation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The 91-year-old <em>Star Trek<\/em> icon was also at the festival to support his new biopic documentary, <em>You Can Call Me Bill<\/em>, which chronicles his six-decade as an Emmy-winning actor, author, recording artist and environmental activist. The film has its premiere tonight. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Shatner made global headlines last year by becoming the oldest person ever to go into space. The actor flew in a suborbital capsule piloted by Jeff Bezos\u2019 company Blue Origin. In his memoir\u00a0<em>Boldly Go<\/em>, he shared how the experience left him profoundly sad. \u201cI wept for the Earth because I realized it\u2019s dying,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/10\/23\/1130482740\/william-shatner-jeff-bezos-space-travel-overview-effect\">Shatner wrote.<\/a> \u201cI dedicated my book,\u00a0<em>Boldly Go<\/em>, to my great-grandchild, who\u2019s three now \u2014 coming three \u2014 and in the dedication, say it\u2019s them, those youngsters, who are going to reap what we have sown in terms of the destruction of the Earth \u2026 I saw more clearly than I have, with all the studying and reading I\u2019ve done, the writhing, slow death of Earth and we on it. It\u2019s a little tiny rock with an onion-skin air around it. That\u2019s how fragile it all is. It\u2019s so fragile.
