Meanwhile, another crypto-exposure asset, namely\u00a0Coinbase stock\u00a0(COIN), has seen the biggest rebound of the three, rising over 100% YTD.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-03\/3441c8a5-adb2-4c08-a6ff-e773f5ee917e.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>BTC\/USD and COIN versus NU yearly performance. Source: TradingView<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Nevertheless, Buffett&#8217;s investment has fared better than COIN over the past 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>As of March 17, NU is down 38% year-over-year compared to COIN&#8217;s 61.76%, nearly equal to Bitcoin&#8217;s 37% losses in the same period.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Warren_Buffett_sticks_by_his_neobank_investment\"><\/span>Warren Buffett sticks by his neobank investment<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Buffett&#8217;s investment firm Berkshire Hathaway purchased $1.50 billion worth of class-A Nubank stock in two separate rounds in July 2021 and February 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> came as a surprise to many since Buffett is a well-known cryptocurrency critic, and Nubank offers crypto trading services via one of its wings called Nucripto. In May 2022, the bank said that it would allocate 1% of its net assets to Bitcoin. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis move reinforces the company\u2019s conviction in Bitcoin\u2019s current and future potential in disrupting financial services in the region,\u201d Nubank said at the time.<\/p>\n<p>But despite Nubank&#8217;s crypto exposure and NU&#8217;s price decline, Buffett has not sold a single share, according to Berkshire&#8217;s latest\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.berkshirehathaway.com\/2022ar\/2022ar.pdf\">annual earnings report<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The decision to keep holding NU through a rough market likely coincides with Nubank&#8217;s growth in the Latin American banking sector.<\/p>\n<p>Nu Holdings, the parent company of Nubank,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/nu-holdings-ltd-reports-fourth-211600365.html#:~:text=Customer%20growth%3A%20Nu%20added%204.2,of%2074.6%20million%20customers%20globally.\">reported<\/a>\u00a0a solid 2022 with 140% year-on-year growth in revenue and a 38% year-over-year rise in active customers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Cathie_Wood_doubling_down_on_COIN_in_2023\"><\/span>Cathie Wood doubling down on COIN in 2023<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The same cannot be said about Coinbase&#8217;s earnings in 2022\u00a0with\u00a0its 57% drop in year-over-year revenue. <\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Related:\u00a0Crypto acted as safe haven amid SVB and Signature bank run: Cathie Wood<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>But ARK Invest CEO, Cathie Wood, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ears unfazed by continuing to buy COIN shares via her\u00a0ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (ARKW) and ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK) in 2023. The COIN buys, in particular,\u00a0account for roughly 30% of all the stock purchased\u00a0so far this year.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-03\/cb9e1a3c-27a2-4275-83e5-49e7d53777fd.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>COIN weight across ARK ETFs portfolios. Source: Ark Invest<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As a result, Coinbase has become Wood&#8217;s fifth-largest holding on record worth nearly $670 million at the time of writing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Holding_Bitcoin_a_better_strategy\"><\/span>Holding Bitcoin a better strategy?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Comparing Bitcoin&#8217;s price performance with the market debut of Coinbase and Nu Holdings reaffirms that BTC not only regularly\u00a0outperform stocks, but also crypto-exposure stocks. Although exceptions have been seen, such as\u00a0with the Bitcoin mining stock boom\u00a0in 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But overall, holding Bitcoin is proving to be a better strategy year-over-year, and likely with more upside potential, than traditional stocks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Notably, NU has dropped by more than 50% since its market debut in December 2021.
