Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) to jump back into the spotlight.<\/p>\n<p>And Warren, who rose to prominence as a consumer protection advocate and has long made headlines for hammering banks, is seizing the opportunity.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Over the past week, the Massachusetts progressive and one-time presidential candidate has launched a wide-ranging offensive.<\/p>\n<p>She unveiled legislation to repeal a 2018 deregulation law signed by former President Trump that raised the threshold for banks subject to federal scrutiny from $50 billion to $250 billion.<\/p>\n<p>She has been a constant presence on cable <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>, with more <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earances set for this weekend\u2019s Sunday show circuit, penned an\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/03\/13\/opinion\/elizabeth-warren-silicon-valley-bank.html\">op-ed in The New York Times<\/a> and has pressed former SVB CEO Greg Becker on his lobbying for the 2018 rollback of regulations.<\/p>\n<p>To a number of Senate Democrats, she is an invaluable voice on the subject.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVery important,\u201d Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.), a backer of Warren\u2019s new banking proposal, told The Hill. \u201cShe\u2019s got not only a great commitment to consumers and families, more broadly she\u2019s got a lot of expertise and is a great messenger and advocate on these issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Warren\u2019s ongoing criticism is poised to cause a headache for President Biden and other Senate Democrats, especially those who voted for the 2018 rollback and are up for reelection in 2024.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>In total, 12 sitting senators who caucus with the Democrats voted for the bill \u2014 including Sen. Kirsten Sinema (I-Ariz.), who voted for it in the House \u2014\u00a0which raised the asset threshold to $250 billion so SVB and dozens of other banks were exempted from the strict federal oversight.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Warren\u2019s legislation, the Secure Viable Banking Act, was introduced in the House by progressive Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.). Despite the warm welcome from some corners of the party, it hasn\u2019t been embraced by Democratic leadership.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When asked if he supports Warren\u2019s blueprint, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) told reporters that \u201cstrong legislation\u201d is needed, but that any bill must be bipartisan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Still, leadership is keenly aware of Warren amid this period of banking tumult. After The Hill noted that Warren has been vocal on the subject this week, Sen. Debbie Stabenow (Mich.), the No. 3-ranked Senate Democrat quipped, \u201cHas she really?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s always a respected voice, certainly,\u201d Stabenow, who voted for the 2018 bill, said. \u201c[The question is] what exactly are we trying to solve? \u2026 I am so grateful that we have President Biden and his team in place. They acted very swiftly and I think in an incredibly competent job to be able to move quickly to calm the waters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden on Monday blamed the Trump administration for the rollbacks of Dodd-Frank and called on Congress and regulators \u201cto strengthen the rules for banks to make it less likely that this kind of bank failure will happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Thursday said the White House has seen \u201cbipartisan support on a piece of legislation, the [Warren]-Porter bill.\u201d No Republicans had signed onto the bill as of Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Jean-Pierre wouldn\u2019t say if the SVB failure could have been avoided if the Dodd-Frank regulations weren\u2019t rolled back but said the White House will speak on its stance on the $250,000 deposit insurance limit \u2014 which the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) waived for SVB depositors \u2014 \u201cin the next few days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The White House is looking at the Warren bill, as well as other regulatory changes, an administration official told The Hill, but wouldn\u2019t say if Biden supports the Massachusetts Democrat\u2019s legislation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Dozens of Senate and House Democrats have since co-sponsored Warren\u2019s bill, but it will be a non-starter in the GOP-controlled House or face a Republican filibuster in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe appreciate their leadership in putting ideas on the table,\u201d the official said. \u201cThe Obama-Biden Administration put in place tough requirements after the 2008 financial crisis to make sure that sort of crisis would not happen again. Unfortunately, the last Administration rolled back some of them. As the President said, Congress and regulators must strengthen rules for larger banks so this doesn\u2019t happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Warren ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 before dropping out and endorsing Biden, the difference between her views and the president\u2019s on issues like regulating banks were on display.\u00a0Biden, who honed in on messaging that he is a centrist and believes in capitalism, was joined on the debate stages by Warren, who has a long history of fighting back against the practices of banks that she adamantly argues are predatory.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Throughout the Biden administration, Warren has been at odds in particular with Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, an official appointed under Trump but in whom Biden has stressed he has full confidence.\u00a0She opposed Powell\u2019s nomination in 2018, warning at the time that he would weaken financial regulations, and since then has been his fiercest critic in the Senate and has berated him during various hearings.<\/p>\n<p>Warren called on Powell this week to recuse himself from the internal review of the SVB failure, arguing that his actions \u201cdirectly contributed\u201d to the situation because the Fed chair has signaled that he would support easing bank regulations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Powell\u00a0reportedly\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/03\/16\/business\/fed-regulation-svb.html?unlocked_article_code=GhyTNFFo9IOGPGx7mEf2PAnJj_O2AGOx8zF-RL91gQfnKKbNzrmb_4Rlxa6bUy_jXeJ8QnhMQv4xVPefVtwcbaZ7cvJlB3LXsbLyHzIA9Ufr6JtXxVyFArVcc2H2BKSV1llgrfwlDtd80vwLlDkzwDunXLfaVh-ML2ZTrqUDedbdmNaYHmFtxuvZPzKZl48cFVItrybeXvpSkmxnMWPw5veQ9-C0b8u2v8MVMySWieC2vG9CFzKiQpenS_b0KdXw9uw8_jT6j6UWsxxa91yDaJW9PkTSteGxxpDgAwX9gTZ6Hl9R6Ue0KPU00qFe_5vMTSjcUGFOReuE_lgXng&amp;smid=url-share\">pushed to not include<\/a> a phrase mentioning regulatory failures in a press release on Sunday night that was put out jointly by the Fed, Treasury Department and the FDIC, arguing he wanted to focus instead on the actions being taken.\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/Powell%20reportedly%20pushed%20to%20not%20include%20a%20phrase%20mentioning%20regulatory%20failures%20in%20a%20press%20release%20on%20Sunday%20night%20that%20was%20put%20out%20jointly%20by%20the%20Fed,%20Treasury%20Department%20and%20the%20FDIC,%20arguing%20he%20wanted%20to%20focus%20instead%20on%20the%20acts%20being%20taken.%20Warren%E2%80%99s%20office%20didn%E2%80%99t%20respond%20to%20a%20request%20for%20comment%20on%20the%20report.\">Warren\u00a0tweeted<\/a>\u00a0that the Fed chairman\u2019s \u201cattempt to muzzle\u201d government officials was \u201ccompletely inappropriate.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr7_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cCongress needs to step in to fix these mistakes before things get even worse,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Warren cited Biden specifically calling on Congress to act after the SVB failure for her decision to introduce her legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Biden called on Congress to strengthen the rules for banks, and I\u2019m proposing legislation to do just that by repealing the core of Trump\u2019s bank law,\u201d she said in a statement on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a> Inc.
