Ted Cruz (R-Texas) urged the Texas state bar to carefully consider the fitness of certain Stanford University law school graduates after a protest over a conservative judge\u2019s speaking engagement on the campus.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz in a letter to Texas officials said there is a \u201cfundamental\u201d question over whether the students who protested the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earance by Kyle Duncan, a circuit judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, are \u201cfit to practice law\u201d in Texas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThe idea that these future lawyers would find it acceptable to harass and insult a sitting judge boggles the mind, and seriously calls into question whether these students have the proper respect for the role of a judge, or the temperament to practice law,\u201d he said in a Thursday <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cruz.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/cruz_letter_re_texas_state_bar.pdf\">letter<\/a> to Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Nathan Hecht and Augustin Rivera, the chair of the Texas Board of Law Examiners. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndeed, these students\u2019 tantrum raises a fair question as to whether they can be trusted to dispassionately defend clients that might have ideological opinions different from their own,\u201d Cruz wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Duncan has visited Stanford Law School to participate in an event called \u201cThe Fifth Circuit in Conversation with the Supreme Court: COVID, Guns, and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cruz said Duncan did not have the opportunity to \u201cmeaningfully speak\u201d as he was \u201cshouted down\u201d by Stanford students.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Stanford\u2019s student <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>paper, The Stanford Daily, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/stanforddaily.com\/2023\/03\/11\/law-school-activists-protest-judge-kyle-duncans-visit-to-campus\/\">reported<\/a> that audience members protested Duncan\u2019s appearance before and during his lecture. The paper reported that opponents protesting Duncan\u2019s appearance put up fliers throughout the campus arguing that Duncan has pushed for laws that have harmed women, immigrants and LGBTQ individuals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cruz said the protesters continuously interrupted Duncan, called him racist and yelled \u201ccrude sexual slurs.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The Stanford Daily reported that the law school\u2019s dean denounced the protest in an email to the school community, saying that what happened did not align with the institution\u2019s \u201ccommitment to free speech.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe school is reviewing what transpired and will work to ensure protocols are in place so that disruptions of this nature do not occur again, and is committed to the conduct of events on terms that are consistent with the disruption policy and the principles of free speech and critical inquiry they support,\u201d Dean Jenny Martinez said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cruz said the Texas board should \u201ctake particular care\u201d for students graduating from Stanford law school in 2023, 2024 and 2025. He said these students should be forced to state in writing if they participated in the protest, and the Texas Supreme Court and the board should decide what the \u201cproper remedy\u201d should be.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cTexans deserve only the finest advocates as their counsel, and those that engage in screaming and name-calling to make their case, are far from the finest,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar Media Inc.
