Her occupational therapy <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointments have also left her physically and mentally exhausted, she told &#8220;TODAY&#8221; co-anchor Savannah Guthrie.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;Some days are not so good days, where I can&#8217;t get up out of bed. She was hospitalized for nearly two weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">She said in an interview with NBC News on Monday that she still doesn&#8217;t have full function of her left hand, making the most simple tasks, such as making a fist, opening a water bottle and getting dressed, extremely difficult. She said her doctors are still uncertain about whether she will be able to use her hand like before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;Physical therapy is not only physically exhausting but mentally exhausting as well. I&#8217;m supposed to be moving them once every hour, throughout the hour,&#8221; she said of her fingers, &#8220;just manipulating them to get that blood flowing and to get that movement back into the hand.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Jan. 6 shooting raised concerns about potential security failures at the kindergarten through fifth-grade school and in a school district rattled by other incidents of gun violence at local schools in the past 18 months.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"styles_inlineImage__yAWZ0 styles_medium__OMa6x\"><picture class=\"styles_image__1qciH\"><source media=\"(min-width: 1000px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com\/image\/upload\/t_fit-1120w,f_auto,q_auto:best\/rockcms\/2023-01\/230106-richneck-elementary-school-mjf-1453-92e6ea.jpg 2x, https:\/\/media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com\/image\/upload\/t_fit-560w,f_auto,q_auto:best\/rockcms\/2023-01\/230106-richneck-elementary-school-mjf-1453-92e6ea.jpg 1x\"><\/source><source srcset=\"https:\/\/media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com\/image\/upload\/t_fit-1520w,f_auto,q_auto:best\/rockcms\/2023-01\/230106-richneck-elementary-school-mjf-1453-92e6ea.jpg 2x, https:\/\/media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com\/image\/upload\/t_fit-760w,f_auto,q_auto:best\/rockcms\/2023-01\/230106-richneck-elementary-school-mjf-1453-92e6ea.jpg 1x\"><\/source><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com\/image\/upload\/t_fit-760w,f_auto,q_auto:best\/rockcms\/2023-01\/230106-richneck-elementary-school-mjf-1453-92e6ea.jpg\" alt=\"Police tape hangs from a sign post outside Richneck Elementary School\" height=\"1664\" width=\"2500\"><\/picture><figcaption class=\"caption styles_caption__Pe5JC\"><span class=\"caption__container\">Police tape hangs from a signpost outside Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Va., after the shooting.<\/span><span class=\"caption__source\">Jay Paul \/ Getty Images file<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"\">The law firm representing Zwerner is planning to file a lawsuit in two weeks related to the case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI can tell you\u00a0there were failures on multiple levels in this case, and there were adults that were in positions of authority that could have prevented this tragedy from\u00a0happening and did not,\u201d lawyer Diane Toscano said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Toscano has said the boy who shot Zwerner had behavioral issues and a pattern of troubling interactions with school staff and other students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">According to a notice of intent to sue provided to the Newport News school board on Jan. 24, the boy was given a one-day suspension for breaking Zwerner&#8217;s cellphone and returned the next day with a 9mm Taurus handgun that he used to shoot his teacher in the classroom while she sat at a reading table.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Three teachers had gone to the school administration about the boy&#8217;s behavior and the suspicion he had a gun on campus, Toscano said. A source close to the incident told NBC News that Zwerner had texted a loved one before she was wounded saying the boy was armed and that school officials were failing to act.<\/p>\n<section class=\"inline-video inline-video--in-body\">\n<div class=\"inline-video__background\">\n<div class=\"inline-video__player\">\n<div class=\"videoPlayer styles_videoPlayer__hWpgx styles_adNotPlaying__yQRQY styles_alignDesktopBottom__p456K styles_alignMobileBottom__vA8hP\">\n<div class=\"videoSlate\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/video\/6-year-old-who-shot-virginia-teacher-will-not-face-charges-164777029625\" class=\"allowClicksOnPreview\"><picture class=\"\"><source media=\"(min-width: 1240px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com\/image\/upload\/t_focal-860x484,f_auto,q_auto:best\/mpx\/2704722219\/2023_03\/1678371062766_tdy_news_8a_thompson_no_charges_teachershot_230309_1920x1080-e91qnx.jpg\"><\/source><source media=\"(min-width: 758px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com\/image\/upload\/t_focal-1000x563,f_auto,q_auto:best\/mpx\/2704722219\/2023_03\/1678371062766_tdy_news_8a_thompson_no_charges_teachershot_230309_1920x1080-e91qnx.jpg\"><\/source><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com\/image\/upload\/t_focal-760x428,f_auto,q_auto:best\/mpx\/2704722219\/2023_03\/1678371062766_tdy_news_8a_thompson_no_charges_teachershot_230309_1920x1080-e91qnx.jpg\" height=\"1080\" width=\"1920\"><\/picture><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p class=\"\">Following the shooting, the family of the 6-year-old boy said in a statement that the weapon was &#8220;secured&#8221; in the home and that they have &#8220;always been committed to responsible gun ownership and keeping firearms out of the reach of children.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The family also said the boy has an acute disability and, following the shooting, was receiving the &#8220;treatment he needs&#8221; under a court-ordered temporary detention\u00a0at a medical facility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Newport News police conducted interviews with school staff and students before turning over the case to the Newport News Commonwealth&#8217;s Attorney in February for possible criminal charges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Police said the child&#8217;s mother legally purchased the gun he used, but haven&#8217;t specified how he obtained it or if it was safely secured as the family has claimed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The local prosecutor, Howard Gwynn, told NBC News this month that while a 6-year-old child could theoretically be criminally charged under Virginia law, he would not seek charges against the student.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
