\n Former Jets coach Pete Carroll \u2014 now head coach for the Seattle Seahawks \u2014 got political on Saturday, delivering an impassioned plea against racism.<\/p>\n

Carroll, 68, called on other coaches to use their platforms to speak out against social<\/a> justice and stressed the need to vote in November and for white people to finally listen to the people of color around them.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is about racism in America that white people don\u2019t know,\u201d the Super Bowl-winning coach said during a nearly 15-minute monologue.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t know enough. And they need to be coached up and they need to be educated about what the heck is going on in this world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBlack people can\u2019t scream anymore,\u201d Carroll went on. \u201cThey can\u2019t march anymore or they can\u2019t bare their souls anymore to what they\u2019ve lived with for hundreds of years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both the Seahawks and at least one other team \u2014 the Carolina Panthers \u2014 canceled their practices Saturday over the Kenosha police shooting of Jacob Blake, according to reports.<\/p>\n

Carroll said when \u201cwhite guys came over from Europe\u201d they had a \u201cgreat idea\u201d about freedom and equality for all that has never come to fruition.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not what happ<\/a>ened because we went down this other road here \u2014 follow the economics and rich white guys making money,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd they put together a system of slavery.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd we\u2019ve never left it, really. It\u2019s never gone away. And the really amazing thing that I\u2019ve learned is Black people know the truth. They know exactly what\u2019s going on. It\u2019s white people that don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carroll said other coaches in the conservative football league must step up to combat racism. His players are \u201cliving scared to death\u201d watching video after video of shootings, he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a calling today for coaches, specifically, to take that leadership opportunity,\u201d Carroll said.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s step up. No more being quiet. No more being afraid to talk to topics. No more, you know, I might lose my job over this, because I\u2019ve taken a stand here. Screw it.\u201d<\/p>\n

And Americans must understand the importance of voting this election, he added. Carroll said every Seahawk was officially registered to vote as of Saturday.<\/p>\n

Safety Jamal Adams thanked his coach for hearing his players.<\/p>\n

\u201cBig thank you to Coach Pete, [general<\/a> manager] John Schneider & the entire Seahawks organization for really hearing us as Black athletes,\u201d Adams tweeted.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a special place, like I\u2019ve said before where everyone\u2019s willing to learn and understand that wrong is wrong, and right is right.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
