\/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) expanded his investigation into Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg\u2019s (D) handling of a hush money probe into former President Trump, requesting testimony from two prosecutors who resigned from the New York case over disagreements with Bragg.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan on Wednesday sent letters to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/2023-03-22-jdj-to-pomerantz-re-trump-investigation.pdf\">Mark Pomerantz<\/a>, former New York County Special Assistant District Attorney, and\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/2023-03-22-jdj-to-dunne-re-trump-investigation.pdf\">Carey Dunne<\/a>, former Manhattan Special Assistant District Attorney, both of whom resigned from Bragg\u2019s Trump investigation in February 2022 because they disagreed with the district attorney\u2019s reluctance to try and indict Trump on the second grand jury that had been empaneled in the case.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The Judiciary chair is requesting that they testify during a transcribed interview \u201cas soon as possible,\u201d and hand over documents and communications.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year, you resigned from the office over Bragg\u2019s initial reluctance to move forward with charges, shaming Bragg in your resignation letter \u2014\u00a0which was subsequently leaked \u2014\u00a0into bringing charges,\u201d Jordan wrote to Pomerantz. \u201cBased on your unique role in this matter, and your subsequent public statements prejudicing the impartiality of any prosecution, we request your cooperation with our oversight of this politically motivated prosecutorial decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a letter to Dunne, Jordan noted that he resigned because of \u201cBragg\u2019s initial reluctance to move forward with charges in 2022,\u201d and that Bragg \u201cis now attempting to \u2018shoehorn\u2019 the same case with identical facts into a new prosecution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The letters to Pomerantz and Dunne follow\u00a0Jordan leading a request\u00a0along with House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) and House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil (R-Wis.) for testimony and documents from Bragg himself after Trump said over the weekend that he would be arrested on Tuesday in connection with the probe over a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels. But Bragg\u2019s office has not announced any indictment, and Bragg\u00a0canceled\u00a0a Wednesday meeting of a New York grand jury weighing an indictment.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans across the board have\u00a0backed up Trump\u2019s outrage\u00a0about a \u201cwitch hunt,\u201d accusing Bragg of being political.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have lashed out at the House GOP probe, with House Oversight ranking member Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) saying in a statement late Monday it is \u201can astonishing and unprecedented abuse of power\u201d and could \u201cobstruct a possible criminal indictment.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Bragg became Manhattan District Attorney in January 2022. At the end of February, Pomerantz and Dunne resigned from the office because, as reported by\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/02\/23\/nyregion\/trump-ny-fraud-investigation.html\">The New York Times<\/a>, Bragg had expressed doubts about continuing the Trump case.<\/p>\n<p>The Times published Pomerantz\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/03\/23\/nyregion\/mark-pomerantz-resignation-letter.html\">resignation letter<\/a>\u00a0in March, in which he said he believed Trump was \u201cguilty of numerous felony violations\u201d in connection to his annual Statements of Financial Condition. Pomerantz noted that Bragg decided not to seek criminal charges in the case, writing \u201cI believe that your decision not to prosecute Donald Trump now, and on the existing record, is misguided and completely contrary to the public interest. I therefore cannot continue in my current position.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI fear that your decision means that Mr. Trump will not be held fully accountable for his crimes. I have worked too hard as a lawyer, and for too long, now to become a passive participant in what I believe to be a grave failure of justice,\u201d he added. \u201cI therefore resign from my position as a Special Assistant District Attorney, effective im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Jordan cited the resignation letter in his communication to Pomerantz on Wednesday night, while also noting his memoir that accused Bragg of mismanaging the probe, and his post-DA work at a law firm with Dunne. The firm is focused on protecting democracy and individual rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt now <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ears that your efforts to shame Bragg have worked as he is reportedly resurrecting a so-called \u2018zombie\u2019 case against President Trump using a tenuous and untested legal theory,\u201d he wrote to both Pomerantz and Dunne.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour actions, both as a special prosecutor and since leaving the District Attorney\u2019s office, cast serious doubt on the administration of fair and impartial justice in this matter,\u201d he later added in both letters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar Media Inc.
