Trump predicted an arrest on Tuesday, but that did not come to fruition. It now <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ears that an indictment from the grand jury could come as soon as next week.<\/p>\n<p>Since Trump\u2019s surprise posts on Truth <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social<\/a> that he expected to be arrested, Bragg\u2019s profile has gone national.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans in Congress have promised an investigation, with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) saying an indictment would \u201cblow up the country.\u201d Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) went further, saying that Bragg should be \u201cput in jail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A trio of Republican House chairmen, led by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), earlier this week demanded the district attorney turn over all documents and communications about the case.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cHe should be disbarred,\u201d Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said of Bragg. \u201cIf he\u2019s going to be using his position to target the Republican Party\u2019s top primary presidential candidate just for politics, that\u2019s not what a DA should be doing. He should be prosecuting crime. That\u2019s what people pay taxes for there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bragg\u2019s office\u00a0hit back on Republicans\u2019 request\u00a0in a letter on Thursday, saying the request would interfere with ongoing law enforcement duties and violate state sovereignty.<\/p>\n<p>The move \u201cis an unprecedent[ed] inquiry into a pending local prosecution,\u201d his office wrote. \u201cThe letter only came after Donald Trump created a false expectation that he would be arrested the next day and his lawyers reportedly urged you to intervene. Neither fact is a legitimate basis for congressional inquiry.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Bragg, 49, was at least already used to criticism and conflict from the race to succeed Cyrus Vance Jr. (D) and his short tenure after taking the job on Jan. 1, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>After a grueling, eight-way primary for the job, the district attorney \u2014 during his first days in office \u2014 took partisan fire from Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>A progressive who ran on balancing public safety with justice, Bragg issued a\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manhattanda.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Day-One-Letter-Policies-1.03.2022.pdf\">\u201cDay One\u201d memo<\/a>\u00a0instructing his office to reserve jail time for only the most serious crimes and to not prosecute certain low-level offenses.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The list included misdemeanors related to resisting arrest for noncriminal offenses, marijuana possession and trespassing.<\/p>\n<p>It\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/news\/local\/new-nypd-commissioner-has-specific-issues-with-manhattan-das-new-prosecuting-policies\/3485946\/\">led to searing criticism<\/a>\u00a0from New York City\u2019s police commissioner \u2014 appointed by a Democratic mayor\u00a0\u2014 and Republicans, who accused Bragg of being soft on crime.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bragg ultimately\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manhattanda.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/2022.02.04.Letter.pdf\">revised the policies<\/a>\u00a0the next month, but the attacks from the right haven\u2019t stopped.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Basil Smikle, a consultant who served as the executive director of the New York State Democratic Party, said Bragg has been a longtime target of those on the right since he was sworn into the job.<\/p>\n<p>In the New York gubernatorial race against now-Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) last year, Republican Lee Zeldin repeatedly campaigned on removing Bragg if he was elected.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s handled the pressure and fended off criticism well but will be heavily scrutinized no matter the outcome,\u201d said Smikle.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Bragg has also taken criticism from Democrats and members of his own prosecutorial team after he last year opted against moving forward in a different investigative prong involving Trump.<\/p>\n<p>A grand jury empaneled before Bragg took office was hearing evidence about whether Trump\u2019s businesses improperly manipulated property values for tax and loan benefits. Bragg\u2019s decision to not seek an indictment from that jury compelled two top prosecutors in the probe \u2014 Mark Pomerantz and Carey Dunne \u2014 to resign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe team that has been investigating Mr. Trump harbors no doubt about whether he committed crimes \u2014 he did,\u201d Pomerantz wrote in his resignation letter, which The New York Times first published last March.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr7_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Liberals were enraged at the revelation, and Bragg started taking criticism from many in his own party as the investigation stalled.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Bragg appears to be moving toward an indictment of Trump after all. He convened a new grand jury earlier this year to hear evidence in the hush money probe, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of recent steps suggest an indictment could come as soon as next week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn some ways, I think he felt some pressure to bring something forward because of all of this to help wipe his slate clean,\u201d one strategist said. \u201cThis would be his chance to redefine himself and have a bit of redemption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was such an utter mess,\u201d the strategist said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some of Bragg\u2019s earlier detractors are now cheering him on. But it is Republicans who have now again gone on the attack, accusing Bragg of weaponizing the legal system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump called Bragg \u201ca danger to our country\u201d and called for his removal on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe sort of can\u2019t win. In many ways, I feel a lot of empathy for him,\u201d said Catherine Christian,\u00a0 a former financial fraud prosecutor in Bragg\u2019s office who was not involved in the Trump investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the rising tensions, the probe has yet to turn up an indictment. For reasons unclear, the grand jury did not meet about the case on either Wednesday or Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Some have speculated that Bragg could change course again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that the heat is on this DA, I think he\u2019s going to make a very sober decision and I would not be surprised if he doesn\u2019t step back from the brink,\u201d CNN political commentator Van Jones said on CNN Monday night.<\/p>\n<p>But Christian said the lack of grand jury meetings late this week is no sign Bragg is backing away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll be blunt: if he does that, he might as well just hang it up.
