\n Pete Alonso has just two hits in his past 21 plate appearances. One of them was the enormous three-run homer that tied the first game<\/a> of Friday\u2019s doubleheader at Yankee Stadium, which propelled the Mets to a comeback win.<\/p>\n

But that success didn\u2019t carry over into the second game, as Alonso went 0-for-3 with two more strikeouts. After the second strikeout, Alonso showed his anger by snapping his bat over his knee on his way back to the dugout.<\/p>\n

He singled in the Mets\u2019 2-1 loss to the Yankees on Saturday, and before the game Luis Rojas said he isn\u2019t concerned about Alonso\u2019s mentality, but acknowledged his approach at the plate hasn\u2019t been as solid as it\u2019s been in the past.<\/p>\n

Rojas hoped a talk Alonso had with hitting coach Chili Davis \u2014 who is working remotely this season out of COVID concerns \u2014 will help.<\/p>\n

\u201cI talked to Chili [Friday] night and they had a conversation about adjustments he needs to make to stay consistent,\u2019\u2019 Rojas said. \u201cSometimes you can see in the middle of an at-bat he can get a little anxious and start chasing. And his at-bat will go from a quality at-bat to a non-quality at-bat right there.\u201d<\/p>\n

As an example, Rojas said Alonso isn\u2019t taking advantage of his patience early in at-bats.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe takes pitches and all of a sudden he\u2019s expanding [the strike zone],\u2019\u2019 Rojas said. \u201cHe becomes overly aggressive in a good hitter\u2019s count. He needs to stay locked in.\u201d <\/p>\n

It\u2019s an issue that wasn\u2019t evident during Alonso\u2019s record-setting rookie season in 2019 and it looked to be taking a toll on him on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can see the frustration and I know he broke his bat and some of the things we\u2019ve seen this season,\u2019\u2019 Rojas said. \u201cBut he is mentally tough. \u2026 He goes very positive to his next at-bat. We\u2019re taking some positives and some negatives out from all this.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
