{"id":567648,"date":"2023-03-27T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-03-27T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/hunter-biden-probes-put-gop-under-some-pressure\/"},"modified":"2023-03-27T13:00:00","modified_gmt":"2023-03-27T10:00:00","slug":"hunter-biden-probes-put-gop-under-some-pressure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/hunter-biden-probes-put-gop-under-some-pressure\/","title":{"rendered":"#Hunter Biden probes put GOP under some pressure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/news-illustration_032423mm-gn-getty_comer-hunter.png?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) said recently that his committee\u2019s investigations into Hunter Biden and his business transactions are just \u201cbeginning\u201d as he seeks to create a headache for the White House as President Biden prepares to launch his reelection campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Comer and his committee are\u00a0trying to unveil whether Biden\u2019s son\u2019s business dealings abroad were connected to the president himself.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Other investigations have shown no involvement by the president, but Comer insists his committee\u2019s inquiries into the family\u2019s dealings will prove to be a fruitful effort.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that when the president was vice president in the Obama administration, he made several <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>s to China. He brought his son and some of these associates with him,\u201d Comer said during a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earance on Fox <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a>, one of a dozen interviews he\u2019s conducted in recent weeks to talk about the probe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey met in different places with some of these people that the president claimed he never met with. So we know the president hasn\u2019t been truthful about his involvement when he was vice president,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The House Oversight Committee clinched a long-sought win last week when it announced that the Treasury Department had\u00a0granted the panel access\u00a0to financial transaction reports pertaining to companies affiliated with the Biden family or their associates, which GOP lawmakers had been pushing for.<\/p>\n<p>White House allies see the committee\u2019s efforts as a political stunt, with the aim of weakening Biden ahead of his reelection bid.<\/p>\n<p>It isn\u2019t that the Biden White House isn\u2019t taking it seriously, allies maintain. In recent months the president has built a team of nearly two dozen lawyers along with communications and legislative aides to manage House GOP investigations and other inquiries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>But Biden allies are betting that the Republican efforts will be for naught, pointing to polling that has indicated the American public doesn\u2019t care about the president\u2019s son and his business dealings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An NBC News poll in January showed that 55 percent of Americans\u2014 including a majority of independents\u2014 said they believe Republicans will spend \u2018too much time investigating President Joe Biden and not enough time on other priorities.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The same poll revealed that 63 percent of those surveyed say they had little to no confidence that Congress will conduct a fair and impartial investigation into Biden and his administration.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>A Pew Research Center poll out that same month showed that 65 percent are concerned that Republican lawmakers will focus too much on Biden administration investigations, including four in 10 Republicans.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Democrats say the investigations will cost Republicans politically.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think this was litigated in 2020, and I don\u2019t think this is what\u2019s gonna have traction,\u201d said Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.). \u201cI\u2019m far more concerned about what\u2019s gonna happen with the economy and manufacturing and inflation than this.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think a voter in Pennsylvania is waking up and thinking about Hunter Biden subpoenas, I think they\u2019re thinking about the price of eggs and whether manufacturing jobs are coming back,\u201d Khanna added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Comer has come under some implicit pressure to show if he can find results from Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer and personality Jesse Waters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll see where the next chapter leads. It\u2019s rather incendiary, we\u2019ll see whether or not you\u2019re on to something,\u201d Hemmer said at the end of an interview with Comer this month. \u201cAgain, five years investigating. Nothing just yet.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Geraldo Rivera, a co-host of \u201cThe Five\u201d on Fox News, took to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> earlier this month to question where the investigation was going: \u201cHunter Biden has been investigated for almost five years,\u201d he said. \u201cPut up or shut up.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>House Republicans say Hunter Biden\u2019s business transactions are worth investigating.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all know we can make polls say whatever we want them to say,\u201d said Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) who is an Oversight Committee member. \u201cIn my district, it\u2019s a very big priority. And in most districts, I think it\u2019s a very big priority. People want to know, they want to see what is going on behind the scenes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cAnd we think where there\u2019s smoke, there\u2019s fire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) who is also a member on the Oversight Committee, added, \u201c\u2026We need to make sure that the president hasn\u2019t broken the law. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Republican strategists acknowledge that it\u2019s too soon to say if the investigations will materialize.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr7_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re asking the right questions. The question is are they going to get any answers,\u201d said Republican strategist John Feehery, a former House GOP aide. \u201cIf you can make a direct link to what his business dealings were that becomes a much more interesting story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Feehery added of the president\u2019s son, \u201cHe\u2019s fundamentally flawed but anytime you attack the family it has a limited return.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Republican strategist Doug Heye, who also served as a senior House aide, added that Republicans \u201cshould be mindful\u201d of former President Trump and his family members\u201d while the investigations into Biden continue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s an entire family named Trump that used the Trump White House to go cha-ching,\u201d Heye said. \u201cSo, at best, this muddies waters politically.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar Media Inc.
