in March that saw its customers&#8217; hot wallets accessed.<\/p>\n<p>As previously reported by Cointelegraph, the ATM manufacturer <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/generalbytes.atlassian.net\/wiki\/spaces\/ESD\/pages\/2885222430\/Security+Incident+March+17-18th+2023\">issued<\/a> a statement about a security incident on March 17 and March 18, which involved a hacker remotely uploading a Java <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lication into its terminals and gaining access to sensitive information, such as passwords, private keys and funds from hot wallets.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent statement to Cointelegraph, the ATM manufacturer said have since been moving swiftly to\u00a0&#8220;address the situation&#8221; and has made the decision to refund its &#8220;cloud-hosted customers who have lost funds.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">On March 17-18th, 2023, GENERAL BYTES experienced a security incident.<\/p>\n<p>We released a statement urging customers to take im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>te action to protect their personal information.<\/p>\n<p>We urge all our customers to take immediate action to protect their funds and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fajc61lcwR\">https:\/\/t.co\/fajc61lcwR<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 GENERAL BYTES (@generalbytes) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/generalbytes\/status\/1637192687160897537?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 18, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>&#8220;We have taken immediate steps to prevent further unauthorized access to our systems and are working tirelessly to protect our customers,&#8221; a General Bytes said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>It was understood that the hack led to at <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockchair.com\/bitcoin\/address\/bc1qfa8pryacrjuzp9287zc2ufz5n0hdthff0av440\">least<\/a> 56 BTC, worth over $1.5 million at current prices, and 21.82 ETH, $37,000 at current prices, being deposited into wallets connected to the hacker. <\/p>\n<p>According to General Bytes, it has thoroughly assessed the damages from the hack and has been &#8220;working tirelessly&#8221; to improve security measures and prevent similar incidents from happening again. <\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-03\/ab67355d-ccb5-4953-b0a7-1105c0c9c35b.JPG\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>General Bytes told affected customers to implement new security measures after the hack.\u00a0 Source: General Bytes<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Along with the reimbursement for affected customers, the ATM manufacturer has also said they are encouraging all customers to migrate to a self-hosted server installation, where they can effectively secure their server platform using VPN. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We are investing heavily in additional human resources to assist our clients in migrating their existing infrastructure to a self-hosted server installation.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to General Bytes, the hack did not affect most ATM operators using self-hosted server installations&#8221; as these customers employ VPN <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> to protect their infrastructure.&#8221; As a result of the security breach, General Btyes shuttered its cloud services. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;General Bytes takes the security of our customers&#8217; funds and data very seriously.
