She let her hands do the talking. As the Iowa star walked off the court, Reese looked in her direction and waved her hands in front of her own face. She then pointed to her ring finger.<\/p>\n<p>The ring finger gesture was clear. She&#8217;d just earned some new jewelry. The hand wave? It&#8217;s a take on a WWE taunt <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=y3ThnX9ghuo\" data-ylk=\"slk:popularized by wrestler John Cena;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">popularized by wrestler John Cena<\/a> that&#8217;s accompanied by the phrase &#8220;You can&#8217;t see me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cena&#8217;s taunt has made its way to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a>, basketball courts and elsewhere where opponents are vanquished. In fact, Clark employed it just last week as <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/march-madness-caitlin-clarks-historic-triple-double-leads-no-2-iowa-past-no-5-louisville-to-final-four-033632856.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Iowa beat Hailey Van Lith and Louisville;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp yahoo-link\">Iowa beat Hailey Van Lith and Louisville <\/a>in the Elite Eight. She did so after hitting her sixth 3-pointer of the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>. Cena took notice and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>reciated the homage \u2014 and Clark&#8217;s game.<\/p>\n<p>As for Reese? She addressed the gesture postgame while speaking with ESPN. She told the studio crew anchored by Elle Duncan that she wasn&#8217;t going to let Clark disrespect teammate Alexis Morris or South Carolina, which Iowa beat in Friday&#8217;s Final Four. Clark waved off South Carolina&#8217;s Raven Johnson in that game on defense as if she didn&#8217;t have to guard her on the perimeter.<\/p>\n<div class=\"caas-pull-quote-wrapper caas-img caas-lazy\" data-src=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"caas-blockquote\"><p>&#8220;I was waiting,&#8221; Reese told ESPN. &#8220;Caitlin Clark is a hell of a player for sure. But I don&#8217;t take disrespect lightly. And she disrespected Alexis and my girls \u2014 South Carolina, they still my SEC girls, too. Y&#8217;all not gonna disrespect them either. &#8230; I had a moment at the end of the game. I was in my bag. (Kevin Jairaj\/USA TODAY Sports)<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>By the time Reese reached the postgame media podium, her gesture had set social media on fire, much of the commentary taking offense. &#8220;Taunting&#8221; trended on Twitter as critics chastised Reese as &#8220;classless.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Reese addressed her critics on the podium.<\/p>\n<div class=\"caas-pull-quote-wrapper caas-img caas-lazy\" data-src=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"caas-blockquote\">\n<p>&#8220;All year, I was critiqued about who I was,&#8221; Reese said. &#8220;The narrative \u2014 I don\u2019t fit the narrative. I don&#8217;t fit into the box that y\u2019all want me to be in. &#8216;I\u2019m too hood. I\u2019m too ghetto.&#8217; Y\u2019all told me that all year.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"caas-pull-quote-wrapper caas-img caas-lazy\" data-src=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"caas-blockquote\">\n<p>&#8220;But when other people do it, y\u2019all don\u2019t say nothing. So this is for the girls that look like me, that\u2019s gonna speak on for what they believe in. It\u2019s unapologetically you. And that\u2019s what I did it for tonight.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"caas-pull-quote-wrapper caas-img caas-lazy\" data-src=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"caas-blockquote\">\n<p>&#8220;This was bigger than me tonight. Twitter is gonna go on a rage every time. And I\u2019m happy. I feel like I&#8217;ve helped grow women&#8217;s basketball this year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>As for Clark? She didn&#8217;t make much of it when asked about Reese&#8217;s gesture.<\/p>\n<div class=\"caas-pull-quote-wrapper caas-img caas-lazy\" data-src=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"caas-blockquote\">\n<p>&#8220;Honestly, I have no idea,&#8221; Clark told reporters. &#8220;I was just trying to get to the handshake line and shake hands and be grateful that my team was in that position. That\u2019s all you can do is hold your head high, be proud of what you did.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"caas-pull-quote-wrapper caas-img caas-lazy\" data-src=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"caas-blockquote\">\n<p>&#8220;All the credit in the world to LSU. They were tremendous. They deserve it. They had a tremendous season. Kim Mulkey coached them so, so well. She\u2019s one of the best basketball coaches of all time, and it shows. She only said really kind things to me in the handshake line, so I\u2019m very grateful to that, too.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"caas-pull-quote-wrapper caas-img caas-lazy\" data-src=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"caas-blockquote\">\n<p>&#8220;But honestly I have no idea. I was just trying to spend the last few moments on the court with especially the five people that I\u2019ve started 93 games with and relishing every second of that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>Reese circled back to the topic once more before leaving the podium.<\/p>\n<div class=\"caas-pull-quote-wrapper caas-img caas-lazy\" data-src=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"caas-blockquote\">\n<p>&#8220;I don\u2019t care to be All-American. I don\u2019t care to be a Defensive Player of the Year,&#8221; Reese said. &#8220;The biggest goal is to be a national champion. And that\u2019s what I did. And I can just brag on. At the end of the day, it\u2019s a team effort.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"caas-pull-quote-wrapper caas-img caas-lazy\" data-src=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"caas-blockquote\">\n<p>&#8220;Twitter can say what they want to say. I love Twitter and I love reading those comments. I have all the screenshots of what everybody has said about me all season. What are you gonna say now?&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>Her response drew applause from some on social media, LeBron James included.<\/p>\n<p>Clark and Reese both have college eligibility remaining and are expected to return next season. Both were All-Americans in 2023 and would project to repeat those honors in 2024.
