\n Judy Farrell, who portrayed Nurse Able on M*A*S*H<\/em> opposite her then-husband Mike Farrell and later served as a writer on the ABC soap opera Port Charles<\/em>, has died. She was 84.<\/p>\n

\n Farrell died Sunday at West Hills Hospital and Medical Center of complications from a recent stroke, her son, Michael, told The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n Farrell also app<\/a>eared on such other shows as Judd for the Defense<\/em>, Get Smart<\/em>, Medical Center<\/em>, Quincy M.E.<\/em>, Emergency!<\/em>, Room 222<\/em>, The Partridge Family<\/em>, Benson<\/em> and Fame<\/em>, for which she also wrote an episode.<\/p>\n

\n From 1976-83, the Oklahoma native showed up on eight installments of M*A*S*H<\/em>. Her first one was 1976\u2019s \u201cOut of Sight, Out of Mind,\u201d where Hawkeye (Alan Alda) attempts to fix a gas stove in the nurses\u2019 tent and it blows up, rendering him temporarily blind.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cAlan decided to make it so he really couldn\u2019t see,\u201d she told THR<\/em> in 2018 in an oral history of the CBS series<\/a>. \u201cI ended up being the nurse who led him around, except I was always bumping him into stuff because I didn\u2019t know how to lead a blind person around. At one point, Alan turned to me and said, \u2018Do your children trust you?’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Farrell also appeared on the series finale, \u201cGoodbye, Farewell, and Amen,\u201d which attracted a mind-blowing 105 million-plus viewers in the U.S. on Feb. 28, 1983.<\/p>\n

\n Her big-screen r\u00e9sum\u00e9 included J.W. Coop<\/em> (1971), Neil Simon\u2019s Chapter Two<\/em> (1979) and Long-Term Relationship<\/em> (2006), and she wrote for the General<\/a> Hospital<\/em> spinoff Port Charles<\/em> from 1998-2003.<\/p>\n

\n Then known as Judy Hayden, she met Mike Farrell in a musical-comedy class at UCLA, and they were married from 1963 until their 1983 divorce. (He joined M*A*S*H <\/em>at the start of its fourth season in 1975 as Captain B.J. Hunnicutt and in 1984 married actress Shelley Fabares.)<\/p>\n

\n Survivors include her second husband, Joe Bratcher (they married in 1985), and her children, Michael and Erin.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
