\n Laura Benanti is opening up about her pregnancy loss. <\/p>\n

\n In an Instagram post <\/a>shared Wednesday, Benanti revealed she had suffered a miscarriage during a recent performance. <\/p>\n

\n \u201cOn Monday April 3rd, I performed on stage for 2000 people while having a miscarriage,\u201d she wrote alongside of a photo of her onstage. \u201cI knew it was happ<\/a>ening. It started slowly the night before.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Benanti continued to share that because it didn\u2019t mark her first miscarriage, she was \u201cnot a stranger to the pain and emptiness of losing a pregnancy.\u201d \u201cIt is a path I have walked before, hand in hand with my husband.\u201d (In 2015, Benanti penned an essay for the Huffington Post<\/a><\/em> in which she reflected on a previous miscarriage, referring to miscarriage as the \u201cVoldemort of women\u2019s issues.\u201d)<\/p>\n

\n \u201cBut this time we walked it alongside some of the kindest, most loving humans I will ever have the honor to share space with,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n

\n She went on to thank the audience for their \u201cgrace\u201d and for \u201clifting me out of my grief for that Holy hour.\u201d She also thanked her band for holding her \u201cunconditionally\u201d in their hearts, as well as the crew \u201cfor working so hard to make me as comfortable as possible\u201d and her \u201cfriends and fellow performers for rallying around me and so graciously accommodating my changing needs. Thank you to the extraordinary producers and their teams who could give a master class on how to handle a personal emergency with empathy and compassion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n The\u00a0Tony Award-winning actress also took a moment to remember the \u201clittle soul for choosing me as your home, even for a short time.\u201d She continued, \u201cPatrick and I are so grateful for the family that we have, and the miracle of our two little girls. One carried by me and one carried by an angel-on-earth.\u201d Last year, Benanti had shared on Instagram<\/a> that she and her husband, Patrick Brown, welcomed their second daughter via surrogate. <\/p>\n

\n After the loss, Benanti says that though she and Brown are \u201cheartbroken,\u201d they will \u201cmove through this together as we, and so many others, have done before.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Benanti explained that she decided to share her loss not as a means of gathering \u201csympathy or attention, but to remind the many people and families who have and will suffer in this way that there is no shame in this kind of loss.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n \u201cThat you are not alone. And to remind myself as well,\u201d she wrote to conclude her post. <\/p>\n
