Michael McCaul (R-Texas) said Sunday that China could take over Taiwan in the next election \u201cwithout a shot fired\u201d in response to a question about if the people there wanted a military confrontation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow there\u2019s a political debate here, the two different parties. One party wants to talk to China. President Tsai\u2019s party does not want to be a part of China,\u201d he told NBC <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a>\u2019 Chuck Todd on \u201cMeet the Press.\u201d <\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI think the next elections in next January are going to be extremely important because I do believe with the former President Ma in China right now, China\u2019s going to try to influence this next election and take over the island without a shot fired.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCaul led a bipartisan House delegation to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan last week after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif) met with Taiwan\u2019s President Tsai Ing-wen\u00a0with a group of lawmakers. McCarthy said the meeting provided for \u201cgreater peace and stability for the world,\u201d as China raised objections and warned of escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait. <\/p>\n<p>Former Taiwanese President\u00a0Ma Ying-jeou\u00a0arrived in China at the end of March for a 12-day visit, possibly made to be timed with the Tsai-McCarthy meeting. <\/p>\n<p>McCaul said the delegation he led with spoke with Tsai on Sunday, noting that her party does not want to be a part of China. He said that events in Hong Kong and Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine was an \u201ceye-opener\u201d for the people of Taiwan, saying that they people there are \u201cvery nervous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Texas Republican, who was speaking with \u201cMeet the Press\u201d from Taiwan, also added that the country\u2019s defense capabilities are \u201cnot where they need to be\u201d in a hypothetical invasion by China. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re not where they need to be,\u201d he said. \u201cIf we\u2019re going to have deterrence for peace, we need to get these weapons into Taiwan.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a> Inc.
