The 62nd edition runs alongside the main Cannes festival May 17-25.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    This year\u2019s competition lineup includes two Asian horror <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a>: the Korean horror film <em>Sleep (Jam)<\/em> from first-time director, and former Bong Joon-Ho assistant, Jason Yu, and<em> Tiger S<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>es<\/em> from Malaysian director Amanda Eu. The former features <em>Parasite<\/em> star Lee Sun-kyun and Train to Busan\u2019s Jung Yu-mi as newlyweds whose lives descend into horror triggered by the husband\u2019s strange behavior while asleep. Tiger Stripes, which draws inspiration from Southeast Asia folklore, is a coming-of-age tale about a 12-year-old girl whose body starts to change in alarming and horrifying ways as she hits puberty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Physical changes of a different sort are at the center of<em> Power Alley (Levante)<\/em>, the competition title from Brazilian director Lillah Halla, about a budding teenage volleyball champion who discovers she is pregnant and falls foul of Brazil\u2019s abortion ban in her attempts to seek an illegal termination. Halla, whose short <em>Menarca<\/em> screened in Cannes Critics\u2019 Week in 2020, developed<em> Power Alley<\/em> with the support of the Critics\u2019 Week Next Step initiative, a program designed to help filmmakers move from their first shorts to their first feature. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Amjad Al Rasheed becomes the first-ever Jordanian director in Critics\u2019 Week with <em>Inshallah A Boy<\/em>. The drama, which stars Palestinian actress Mouna Hawa (<em>A House In Jerusalem<\/em>), examines Jordan\u2019s sexist inheritance laws through the story of a woman fighting for her economic survival and independence following the death of her husband. This is Al Rasheed\u2019s debut feature, after attracting attention with the  award-winning short <em>The Parrot<\/em>, co-directed with Darin J. Sallam.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Also in the Critics\u2019 Week competition this year are the French psychological thriller <em>Le Ravissement <\/em>from director Iris Kaltenb\u00e4ck, featuring Hafsia Herzi as a woman who kidnaps her friend\u2019s new-born baby in an attempt to build a life with a former lover; the Belgian drama <em>Il Pleut Dans La Maison<\/em> from director Paloma Sermon-Da\u00ef\u2019s about two teenagers left alone in a dilapidated house over the summer holidays; and <em>Lost Country <\/em>from director Vladimir Peri\u0161i\u0107, a Serbian drama set against the backdrop of the 1996 student demonstrations in Belgrade against the attempted election fraud by then-President Slobodan Milo\u0161evi\u0107. Peri\u0161i\u0107 <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared in Critics\u2019 Week in 2009 with <em>Ordinary People<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Ava Cahen, now in her second year as artistic director of Critics\u2019 Week, made a major splash at her debut, which featured break-out hits including Charlotte Wells\u2019 Oscar-nominated <em>Aftersun<\/em>, Crist\u00e8le Alves Meira\u2019s Portuguese feature <em>Alma Viva<\/em>, and Andr\u00e9s Ram\u00edrez Pulido\u2019s Columbian drama <em>La Jauria<\/em>. This year\u2019s poster for Critics\u2019 Week features a scene from <em>Aftersun<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Marie Amachoukeli\u2019s <em>Ama Gloria<\/em>, a drama about the deep bond between a motherless six-year-old and her nanny, opens the 2023 Critics\u2019 Week section in a special screening, and Erwan Le Duc\u2019s <em>No Love Lost<\/em>, starring <em>120 BPM<\/em> actor Nahuel Perez Biscayart as a single father raising a daughter (C\u00e9leste Brunnquell), will close the section.
