\n NBCUniversal and the BBC are going on a journey \u2014\u00a0but aren\u2019t telling where.<\/p>\n

\n The two broadcasters, who recently teamed on the breakout unscript<\/a>ed show The Traitors<\/em>, are co-commissioning a competition series<\/a> called Destination X<\/em>. The show, based on a format created by Belgian company Geronimo and distributed by BE-Entertainment, asks contestants to figure out where they are in the world, with \u201ctweaks\u201d to the real world designed to throw them off.<\/p>\n

\n Universal Television Alternative Studio will develop the show for NBC; Destination X<\/em> is targeted for BBC One in the U.K.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cDestination X<\/em> is a big, unique format that pairs\u00a0spectacular\u00a0adventure travel<\/a> with the ultimate guessing game<\/a>,\u201d said Corie Henson, executive vp unscripted programming for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming.\u00a0\u201cThe Traitors<\/em> instilled confidence that big formats are back, and Destination X<\/em> is incredibly ambitious.\u00a0We\u2019re\u00a0thrilled to have the perfect traveling partners in\u00a0Universal Television Alternative Studios,\u00a0BBC\u00a0and BE-Entertainment for this one-of-a-kind immersive gameplay set among stunning locations.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Added Kate Phillips, BBC director of unscripted, \u201cFollowing the must-see success of The Traitors<\/em>, I\u2019m delighted that once again we\u2019re partnering with NBCUniversal on another very smart, very addictive and very innovative competition show. With countless red herrings and brain-teasing clues, we were gripped from the start. It promises to be a hugely challenging adventure for our 10 brave contestants, with plenty of play along for all BBC viewers, as everyone hopes they\u2019ve got the \u2018X\u2019 that marks the spot!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Destination X<\/em> will send 10 players on a road trip, but they have no idea of their location. The show\u2019s description reads, \u201cOnce they\u2019re on the innovative Destination X<\/em> bus, reality is tweaked to mislead\u00a0them and the viewers. Information comes with a number of clues designed to help the contestants decide if they can trust what they see. They need to be on top of their game at all times to figure out where they are.\u00a0At the end of each episode, the contestant who places their X\u00a0on a map furthest away from the\u00a0bus\u2019s\u00a0actual location has to leave the game and loses their shot at winning a cash prize. The surviving participants search for the location of\u00a0the host, who interacts with them from\u00a0a\u00a0secret command post.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n The series debuted in February in Belgium and scored strong ratings there. \u201cIt\u2019s amazing to see how Destination X<\/em> has taken off since its launch,\u201d said Gepke Nederlof, managing director of BE-Entertainment. \u201cIt\u2019s a true adventure both in and outside of the Destination X<\/em> bus, and we could not be more proud than to partner with two of the leading content companies in the world in such an early stage of our international journey.\u201d<\/p>\n
