\n Tucker Carlson has broken his silence since Monday\u2019s surprise announcement that he was fired from Fox News<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n In a more-than-two-minute video posted to his Twitter<\/a>, the former host of Tucker Carlson Tonight <\/em>began by saying that stepping \u201coutside the noise for a few days\u201d has shown him \u201chow many genuinely nice people there are in this country.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n \u201cKind and decent people, people who really care about what\u2019s true and a bunch of hilarious people also \u2014 a lot of those,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s got to be the majority of the population, even now. So that\u2019s heartening.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n Carlson also said he\u2019s noticed how \u201cunbelievably stupid\u201d most of the debates on television are. He went on to say that they\u2019re irrelevant and mean nothing, noting that five years from now, people won\u2019t even remember seeing those debates. <\/p>\n

\n \u201cTrust me, as someone who\u2019s participated. And yet, at the same time \u2014 and this is the amazing thing \u2014 the undeniably big topics, the ones that will define our future, get virtually no discussion at all,\u201d he added. \u201cWar, civil liberties, emerging science<\/a>, demographic change, corporate power, natural resources \u2014 when was the last time you heard a legitimate debate about any of those issues? It\u2019s been a long time.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n Carlson continued, \u201cDebates like that are not permitted in American media. Both political parties and their donors have reached consensus on what benefits them, and they actively collude to shut down any conversation about it. Suddenly, the United States looks very much like a one-party state. That\u2019s a depressing realization. But it\u2019s not permanent.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n The former Fox News political commentator said that he doesn\u2019t think those orthodoxies will last because nobody believes them, and nobody\u2019s life is improved by them. He explained that the \u201cpeople in charge\u201d know about this, and that\u2019s why they\u2019re \u201chysterical and aggressive.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThey\u2019re afraid,\u201d Carlson said. \u201cThey\u2019ve given up persuasion. They\u2019re resorting to force, but it won\u2019t work. When honest people say what\u2019s true, calmly and without embarrassment, they become powerful. At the same time, the liars who\u2019ve been trying to silence them shrink. They become weaker. That\u2019s the iron law of the universe. True things prevail.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n Fox News announced it had agreed to part ways with Carlson and thanked him for his service on Monday. The decision seemingly came out of nowhere, with his program often ranking as the most watched on the network and of all cable TV on some days. <\/p>\n

\n While Fox finds a replacement for Carlson, a rotating slate of guest hosts will fill in on a new show called Fox News Tonight. <\/em><\/p>\n
