The company says it is the first scalable technology of its kind to add \u201csuperior\u201d nutritional value to plant-based foods.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The data is abundantly clear \u2013 if we are to have any chance at halting global warming, we need to revolutionise our food systems. <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>roximately 14.5% of all anthropogenic greenhouse gases come from the raising of livestock. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cancerresearchuk.org\/about-cancer\/causes-of-cancer\/diet-and-cancer\/does-eating-processed-and-red-meat-cause-cancer\">research has shown<\/a> processed red meats to be carcinogenic. This means that what we choose to put on our plates matters, for the health of both the collective and the individual.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the initial enthusiasm for vegan meat alternatives has waned somewhat, with shares in one of the most eponymous alternatives, Beyond Meat, losing over 60% of their value over the past year alone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"inarticle-wrapper channel-cta\">\n<div class=\"ica-text\">\n<p class=\"ica-text__title\">Join us at TNW Conference June 15 &amp; 16 in Amsterdam<\/p>\n<p>Here are four reasons why you can&#8217;t miss it<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Often, companies behind the fake meat revolution are criticised for relying too heavily on artificial additives, with long lists of unpronounceable ingredients. Furthermore, the ultra-processed products are often devoid of essential nutrients.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI think that the worst enemy of the category are bad products,\u201d <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-04-25\/fake-meat-s-health-quest-sees-spanish-startup-tackle-charcuterie?srnd=premium\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Heura\u2019s co-founder Marc Coloma. \u201cWe see that there has been kind of a gold rush in this category where a lot of products had been launched super fast to the market without meeting consumer expectations.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Patent-pending_thermomechanical_technology\"><\/span>Patent-pending thermomechanical technology<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most approaches to creating vegan meat substitutes are sort of trial and error. Producers experiment with different blends of binders and additives as well as vegetable proteins to see what works.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enter Heura\u2019s patent-pending technology. The thermomechanical technique uses heat and mechanical energy to shape or modify a material\u2019s properties. However, during the launch of the project platform, named Good Rebel Tech, last year, the company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science<\/a> and Technology director Isabelle F\u00e9rnandez, <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/foodmatterslive.com\/article\/heura-good-rebel-tech-food-waste-plant-based\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stated<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cInstead of focusing on extracting and isolating proteins from legume seeds, we are researching ways to leverage the functionality of whole plants in their naturally occurring structures.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For now, focus will be on products in the deli, cheese and whole meats. And as anyone who has ever dined in Spain can attest, these are far more popular categories than the most commonly substituted burger patty.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"But_protein\"><\/span>But, protein?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company has already developed two products using the technology: a frankfurter-style sausage and ham-style slices, both made from soy protein. The frankfurters have a protein density of 72%, and the \u201cham\u201d 70%. Heura is hoping to have both products hit store shelves by the end of Q4 2023.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">List of ingredients for the frankfurter? Water, soy protein isolate, extra virgin olive oil, radish, carrot and paprika flavour concentrates, lemon juice from concentrate and vitamin B12. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may have noticed it does not, like so many fake meat products, contain coconut oil. This is due to another milestone reached by Heura\u2019s R&amp;D department last year, where it managed to replace the saturated fat alternative with a 100% olive-oil-based analogue.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Successful_equity_crowdfunding\"><\/span>Successful equity crowdfunding<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heura Foods was founded in 2017, in a co-working office in the centre of Barcelona. Its first customer was a small, local business in the Poble-sec neighbourhood. The startup has raised \u20ac36 million to date \u2013 including an equity crowdfunding campaign which landed it \u20ac4 million in just 12 hours. In 2022, the company secured a turnover of \u20ac31.4 million, and in 2023, it grew 44% in Q1 compared to the same quarter the year before.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, Heura has <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>led its market share in Spain over the past three years, and has agreements with retailer groups in Austria, Switzerland, Poland, the Netherlands, Portugal and the UK.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Could the possession of a patent in an otherwise quite wild west low barrier-to-entry plant-based meats industry lure more investors to Heura\u2019s cause?
