Light, to publicly reaffirm its support for the transgender community following weeks of right-wing pushback over the brewing company\u2019s recent partnership with transgender <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> influencer Dylan Mulvaney.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter sent this week to Anheuser-Busch\u2019s head of human resources, Jay Brown, a senior vice president at the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, slammed the company\u2019s response to the controversy as insufficient and cowardly.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cIn this moment, it is absolutely critical for Anheuser-Busch to stand in solidarity with Dylan and the trans community,\u201d reads the April 26 letter obtained by The Hill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, when faced with anti-LGBTQ+ and transphobic criticism, Anheuser-Busch\u2019s actions demonstrate a profound lack of fortitude in upholding its values of diversity, equity, and inclusion to employees, customers, shareholders and the LGBTQ+ community.\u201d<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis not only lends credence to hate-filled rhetoric, it exposes Anheuser-Busch to long-term business impacts with employees and customers increasingly looking for steadfast commitment to LGBTQ+ corporate citizenships,\u201d Brown wrote.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Human Rights Campaign is the nation\u2019s largest LGBTQ civil rights organization.<\/p>\n<p>Conservative media personalities, musicians and politicians for nearly a month have waged a highly publicized campaign against Anheuser-Busch after Mulvaney shared <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CqgTftujqZc\/\">a sponsored post<\/a>\u00a0to her Instagram page promoting Bud Light\u2019s March Madness contest.<\/p>\n<p>The transgender social media star, who has shared her transition journey with followers online,\u00a0addressed the pushback\u00a0for the first time on Thursday, telling her 1.8 million Instagram followers in a video that she\u2019s \u201cdoing OK\u201d despite the hate she has received.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s OK to be frustrated with someone or confused,\u201d she said. \u201cBut what I\u2019m struggling to understand is the need to dehumanize and to be cruel.\u201d<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Responding to the criticism of its partnership with Mulvaney, Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth this month said the company has \u201cthousands of partners, millions of fans and a proud history of supporting our communities, military, first responders, sports fans and hard-working Americans everywhere.\u201d<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe never intended to be part of a discussion that divides people,\u201d Whitworth said in a\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AnheuserBusch\/status\/1646959620437561356\">written statement<\/a>\u00a0shared on Anheuser-Busch\u2019s social media accounts. \u201cWe are in the business of bringing people together over beer.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The company this month also put the marketing executive who oversaw the partnership between Bud Light and Mulvaney on a leave of absence,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/04\/23\/anheuser-busch-executive-takes-leave-following-transgender-influencer-.html\">according to media reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pushback over Anheuser-Busch\u2019s partnership with Mulvaney comes at a pivotal time for transgender rights, as well as LGBTQ rights more broadly.\u00a0<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nearly 470 bills targeting LGBTQ people have been introduced this year in state legislatures nationwide, according to the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/legislative-attacks-on-lgbtq-rights\">American Civil Liberties Union<\/a>. This year alone, 40 new anti-LGBTQ bills have been signed into law, with most targeting the transgender community.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>At least 10 transgender and gender-nonconforming people\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hrc.org\/resources\/fatal-violence-against-the-transgender-and-nonbinary-community-in-2023?utm_medium=ads&amp;utm_source=GoogleSearch&amp;utm_content=HateCrimes-AntiLGBTQHateCrimes&amp;utm_campaign=GoogleGrant&amp;utm_source=GS&amp;utm_medium=AD&amp;utm_campaign=BPI-HRC-Grant&amp;utm_content=607605659465&amp;utm_term=hate%20crimes&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjw3a2iBhCFARIsAD4jQB3wrRCk1GwYtnMUdJZSR0s_fIRgmPH22NFGqMkvT--GDFlHRids0rAaAg2SEALw_wcB\">have been killed this year<\/a>, according to HRC data.<\/p>\n<p>According to the HRC letter, the group is preparing to lower Anheuser-Busch\u2019s long-standing 100 percent\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hrc.org\/resources\/buyers-guide\/anheuser-busch-companies-inc.\">Corporate Equality Index score<\/a>, a national benchmarking tool on corporate policies, practices and benefits relevant to LGBTQ employees.<\/p>\n<p>Brown in the letter requests that company executives meet with HRC leadership to discuss a number of recommendations, including that Anheuser-Busch releases a public statement \u201creaffirming its full support for its transgender customers, shareholders, and employees.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Anheuser-Busch has declined several meeting requests from HRC in the wake of right-wing pushback over its partnership with Mulvaney, according to an individual with knowledge of the situation. Anheuser-Busch did not immediately respond to The Hill\u2019s request for comment.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The letter also recommends that Anheuser-Busch meet with its LGBTQ employees to discuss and \u201cunderstand their concerns\u201d and conduct workplace transgender inclusion training for company executives.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar Media Inc.
