{"id":572368,"date":"2023-04-30T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-04-29T21:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/democrats-reconstruct-blue-wall-in-lead-up-to-2024\/"},"modified":"2023-04-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2023-04-29T21:00:00","slug":"democrats-reconstruct-blue-wall-in-lead-up-to-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/democrats-reconstruct-blue-wall-in-lead-up-to-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"#Democrats reconstruct blue wall in lead-up to 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/04\/White-House-blue.png?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Democrats are rebuilding their strength in the \u201cblue wall\u201d states that former President Trump won in 2016, raising the party\u2019s hopes in a region that will prove critical to races up and down the ballot next year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The party is riding high after key victories in states like Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin over the past six months, signaling a newfound momentum after Trump\u2019s\u00a0win\u00a0called into question the party\u2019s standing in the rust belt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>But Democrats say they\u2019re not taking the states for granted and still have more work to do as President Biden looks to clinch a second term and several senators in those states face reelection.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s clear that the path to the White House, the path to retaining a Senate majority cuts through the Midwest,\u201d said Kaitlin Fahey, a Democratic consultant who led the successful bid to host next year\u2019s\u00a0Democratic National Convention\u00a0in Chicago and former chief of staff to Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Republicans clearly have their sights set on pummeling the \u201cblue wall,\u201d choosing to host the Republican National Convention in nearby Milwaukee next year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth on the Republican and Democratic sides, it\u2019s indicative of their choice how critical they view the path of the Midwest, the Rust Belt, some describe it as flyover states,\u201d Fahey said. \u201cThose are states and constituencies who cannot be forgotten about; who have been at times felt left behind, especially in previous administrations.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The party made its focus on protecting the traditional \u201cblue wall\u201d clear earlier this month when Biden and the Democratic National Committee\u00a0(DNC)\u00a0selected Chicago to host\u00a0the 2024\u00a0party convention. Governors of Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota each signed onto a letter supporting Chicago\u2019s DNC bid in which they said the party \u201cmust do everything we can to ensure the blue wall becomes an impenetrable blue fortress.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In addition to being swing presidential states, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin are also home to competitive Senate races this cycle. \u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>While\u00a0the nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates these Senate races as \u201clean Democratic,\u201d that does not mean\u00a0the party is complacent going into these elections\u00a0\u2014 especially given the GOP primary fields are still solidifying over a year and a half out from Election Day.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is Pennsylvania, the work never stops,\u201d said one Pennsylvania Democratic strategist. \u201cWe will not be abandoning any part of the state.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In Pennsylvania, Democrats made gains up and down the ballot in 2022, winning the suburbs while making a play for rural areas usually dominated by Republicans.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cFrom a GOP perspective, those margins that Trump was able to do in 2016 are good, but it\u2019s also [because] he was able to have much better margins in the suburbs,\u201d the strategist said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Michigan was also a major success story for Democrats\u00a0at the\u00a0ballot last year, but like Pennsylvania Democrats, Michigan Democrats say\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0a sign to keep going.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMake no mistake, Michigan is still a purple state and if we turn our backs on it, if we get complacent, it can go in the wrong direction,\u201d said Andrew Feldman, a Democratic strategist who works closely with Michigan Democrats. \u201cMichigan Democrats across the board from the state Legislature all the way up to the top of the ticket in the state have done the work since Trump won in 2016 to rebuild the party and rebuild that infrastructure, and I think you\u2019re going to continue to see them aggressively organize.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Wisconsin Democrats saw a major statewide victory earlier this month when Milwaukee County Judge Janet Protasiewicz\u2019s victory handed a majority to liberals on the state\u2019s Supreme Court for the first time in 15 years. On top of that, Democrats\u00a0also point to\u00a0incumbent Sen. Tammy Baldwin\u2019s (D-Wis.) reelection win in 2018, two years after Trump flipped the state in 2016.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2018, Sen. Baldwin proved that she can win Trump voters as well as bring out the Democratic base,\u201d said Arik Wolk, a spokesperson for the Wisconsin Democratic Party.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn large part, it is because of her focus on issues that are important to people across the political spectrum in Wisconsin,\u201d Wolk added, referring to manufacturing and agriculture.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The Biden campaign and outside groups backing the president\u2019s reelection made clear where their focus will be within hours of the president\u2019s 2024 launch.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The campaign announced it would air ads in six battleground states, including Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>United the Country, a pro-Biden super PAC, announced its first ad of the 2024 cycle would air in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin as part of a $1 million ad buy focused on those states to remind voters of Biden\u2019s legislative accomplishments.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>And Priorities USA, another major Democratic super PAC, announced a goal of putting $75 million toward digital mobilization and programming to persuade voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Biden carried all six of those states in 2020. All are expected to be competitive in 2024, and all but Georgia will have competitive Senate races for seats currently held by a Democrat.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s your incumbent advantage that everybody talks about.
