He said Crow offered to pay the first year of tuition for Martin, but did not pay for any other year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Thomases love their great nephew. It is despicable that the press has dragged him into their effort to smear Justice Thomas,\u201d Paoletta said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Paoletta also said that Randolph-Macon eventually recommended that Martin attend a boarding school in Georgia, Hidden Lake Academy, for a year, and Crow also paid for that year of tuition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In both cases, he said, Crow\u2019s payments went directly to the schools.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Paoletta\u2019s account comes after reporting from ProPublica that Crow had paid for Martin\u2019s tuition at private schools. Federal law requires that Supreme Court justices disclose gifts received by them, their spouse or a dependent child.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Paoletta argues that the payments were not reportable gifts, because federal law does not include a great-nephew as a dependent child, only a \u201cson, daughter, stepson or stepdaughter.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis malicious story shows nothing except for the fact that the Thomases and the Crows are kind, generous, and loving people who tried to help this young man,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Crow\u2019s office said in a statement that he and his wife have funded scholarships for many students in the past. The office said tuition assistance and other financial aid is given directly to an institution instead of an individual.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s dis<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointing that those with partisan political interests would try to turn helping at-risk youth with tuition assistance into something nefarious or political,\u201d the office said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The report on the tuition assistance is the latest in a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of controversies surrounding Thomas and his ties to Crow.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>ProPublica has previously reported on luxury <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>s Thomas took that were paid for by Crow, as well as Crow buying a property from Thomas and his family; neither was publicly disclosed.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Thomas has said he was advised that he did not need to report the trips because they should be considered to be a personal hospitality exception.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a> Inc.
