\n An Arkansas sheriff has resigned after being caught on tape unleashing a racist tirade at the mother of his kids \u2014 calling her a \u201cn\u2014- lover\u201d for speaking to a black grocery store worker, according to reports.<\/p>\n

Todd Wright resigned Friday as sheriff of Arkansas County during an explosive meeting, which was posted live on Facebook<\/a> from the Quorum Court, the governing legislative body, NBC News<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n

Desiree Middlebrooks, the mother of Wright\u2019s children, secretly recorded him going ballistic and using the racial slur nine times a few months ago at the store.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy you got to holler at f\u2014 n\u2014 when I\u2019m around?\u201d he was heard yelling at Middlebrooks.<\/p>\n

In a feeble May 28 mea culpa on Facebook reported by The Pine Bluff Commercial, Wright acknowledged that it was his voice in the five-minute recording.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo all I have offended or hurt I send my sincere apologies and will pray for my enemies,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

During Friday\u2019s hearing, the loudmouth lawman blamed his unhinged outburst on the devil and insisted he\u2019s not racist, USA Today reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a Christian man. I read my Bible every day,\u201d Wright said. \u201cI am by no means a racist. That video does not show the true picture of me.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also said he had been angry with Middlebrooks because he missed a funeral of a black pal, according to the news outlet.<\/p>\n

A woman who identified herself as the aunt of Nick Clark, the man Wright had disparaged, said she didn\u2019t understand know why he felt the need to call the man \u201cnames like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe wouldn\u2019t come here today. He doesn\u2019t like this kind of stuff but he\u2019s hurt,\u201d said Betty Wofford, who described her nephew as a family man who works two jobs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t believe anything you just said. You have to say this stuff because you want to keep your job,\u201d she added, according to the Pine Bluff Commercial.<\/p>\n

Justice of the Peace Inez McLemore said: \u201cAfter viewing and hearing the video I was terribly upset to know that we have someone out here that\u2019s supposed to be taking care of us, protecting and serving to have that kind of opinion of me \u2013 I\u2019m using me as a race because of my color.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cIf it\u2019s in your heart, in your mind and you say it, you mean it. What you did on that video brought a world of separation.\u201d<\/p>\n

County Judge Thomas Best said the court\u2019s members decided Thursday to ask for Wright\u2019s resignation after the vile tape began circulating on Facebook.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt saddens me that anyone would disrespect God\u2019s creation in this manner,\u201d Best said during the meeting. \u201cNo way will I condone this action from anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wright initially refused to resign, then said he would do so in a month, and finally agreed to step down immediately after a former officer spoke.<\/p>\n

\u201cTodd, I\u2019ve known you all my life. You need to take that badge and (set) it on that table and walk out of here Todd,\u201d former DeWitt officer Bobby Webb said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know I love you, but you screwed up. Lay that badge down, lay that gun down and walk out of here,\u201d he said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
