{"id":574077,"date":"2023-05-11T20:46:37","date_gmt":"2023-05-11T17:46:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/mccarthy-says-hell-call-fbi-director-over-subpoena-in-biden-probe\/"},"modified":"2023-05-11T20:46:37","modified_gmt":"2023-05-11T17:46:37","slug":"mccarthy-says-hell-call-fbi-director-over-subpoena-in-biden-probe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/mccarthy-says-hell-call-fbi-director-over-subpoena-in-biden-probe\/","title":{"rendered":"#McCarthy says he\u2019ll call FBI director over subpoena in Biden probe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/05\/mccarthykevin_050923ag07_w.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said he plans to call FBI Director Christopher Wray on Thursday after the agency rebuffed a subpoena from the House Oversight Committee for a document that GOP lawmakers claim lays out an \u201calleged criminal scheme\u201d involving President Biden and a foreign national.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy\u2019s comments came one day after Christopher Dunham, the acting assistant director of the FBI\u2019s Office of Congressional Affairs, penned a letter to House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) informing him the agency would not im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely provide the document in question.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cAs this was your first communication with the FBI seeking this information, please know that the FBI is committed to beginning the constitutionally mandated accommodation process,\u201d Dunham wrote, later adding the agency \u201cwould be pleased to coordinate with your staff to discuss whether and how we can accommodate your request without violating our law enforcement and national security obligations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday morning, McCarthy called the FBI\u2019s response \u201cunacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m gonna call Director Wray today because we have oversight of the FBI. We have the right,\u201d McCarthy said during an interview on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/kevin-mccarthy-speak-fbi-director-hunter-biden-probe-document-oversight\">\u201cFox &amp; Friends\u201d<\/a> outside the Capitol. \u201cComer is simply following information that he has found. We should find all the information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> McCarthy also underscored the House\u2019s authority to conduct oversight over the FBI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a member of Congress, it doesn\u2019t matter if this person is Republican or Democrat. We have oversight of the FBI. If the FBI at any times think they could withhold information from Congress, we have a severe problem on our hands,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Comer and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) subpoenaed the FBI last week after claiming a \u201chighly credible\u201d whistleblower informed them the FBI had an FD-1023 form in its possession that detailed \u201can alleged scheme involving then-Vice President Biden and a foreign national relating to the exchange of money for policy decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>FD-1023 forms are used to document unverified information that is obtained from confidential sources. Comer asked that the FBI hand over all such forms created or modified in June 2020 that contain the word \u201cBiden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Comer and Grassley did not reveal any other details about the document in question, and Grassley in the past week has said Republicans do not know whether the claims are accurate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mere existence of such a document would establish little beyond the fact that a confidential human source provided information and the FBI recorded it,\u201d Dunham wrote to Comer. \u201cIndeed, the FBI regularly receives information from sources with significant potential biases, motivations, and knowledge, including drug traffickers, members of organized crime, or even terrorists.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Comer in a statement said the agency\u2019s letter proves the document exists but is being shielded from Congress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s clear from the FBI\u2019s response that the unclassified record the Oversight Committee subpoenaed exists, but they are refusing to provide it to the Committee,\u201d Comer said. \u201cWe\u2019ve asked the FBI to not only provide this record, but to also inform us what it did to investigate these allegations. The FBI has failed to do both. The FBI\u2019s position is \u2018trust, but you aren\u2019t allowed to verify.\u2019 That is unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During a press conference on Wednesday outlining information about foreign money transferred to businesses linked to the Biden family and associates, Comer said his panel \u201cwill report to you only facts when they are verified and indisputable.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThis committee will not pursue witch hunts, or string the American people along for years with false promises of evidence that is beyond circumstantial evidence,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar Media Inc.
