You\u2019ve only got a few days to join the startup contest at TNW Conference in Amsterdam on June 15 &amp; 16! <\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Valencia\u2019s hottest green-fintech startup is on a mission to break down the high barriers to investment in the energy sector and make it easy for everyone to fund renewable projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/crowmie.com\/en\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crowmie<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which launched February last year, is jumping into the micro-investing space by allowing anyone with as little as \u20ac100 to spend the chance to invest directly into renewable energy projects in Spain, and see monthly returns.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tech-wise, Crowmie has built a platform to create digital security tokens (STO, Security Token Offerings) for the total amount of each project they want to finance. This automated process means all investment transactions are registered in the blockchain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.net\/embed\/iframe\/3yishpx6ry?videoFoam=true&amp;autoPlay=true\" title=\"\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" class=\"wistia_embed\" name=\"wistia_embed\" allowfullscreen=\"\" msallowfullscreen=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 12-person startup, led by founders Fernando D\u00e1vila (26), Pablo Valverde (29) and Joshua Cleveland (29) won the Pitch Battle at <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TNW Valencia<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in March this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe jury was impressed with the team\u2019s vision and goal of making it easier to invest in renewable energy,\u201d said Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten, co-founder of TNW and jury member of the Pitch Battle. \u201cThis is such an amazing opportunity that people like you and I can now finally get active in. This is one of those startups that you hope become very successful, not just for the team, or the investors but for the whole world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crowmie (the name is a mashup of \u201ccrowd\u201d and \u201chomie\u201d) has received \u20ac300,000 in pre-seed funding so far and is going after a \u20ac1.5 million seed round this year. Just over 42% of the country\u2019s electricity was <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/419432\/spain-share-of-electricity-from-renewable-sources\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">generated from renewable sources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2022, and it wants to increase this share to 74% by 2030.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/spains-bulging-solar-pipeline-heaps-pressure-permitting-2022-12-08\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reuters report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from December 2022, Spain has the largest solar pipeline in Europe, with so many solar projects in planning that the government is struggling to get all the permits issued.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Zero-hassle_investing\"><\/span>Zero-hassle investing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Getting up and running on the Crowmie <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a> is simple, according to D\u00e1vila. Once someone signs up and completes the legal verification steps, they just need to select which of the Crowmie energy projects they want to invest in, and how much. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They then receive a minted token for that monetary value giving them economic rights to the project. They can resell their tokens with one click any time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crucially, Crowmie\u2019s business model is not purely about facilitating investment and financing the projects, as they actually own the installations and plants themselves. Investors started getting dividends from the first month of operations and it is expected to deliver a return of 7.5% per year for five years for investors, and save 1,365 tonnes of CO\u2082 per year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The startup also makes money by taking 5% of the value of tokens that they mint on the platform (giving them 5% of the economic rights of any one project) and a 2% processing fee.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Chickens_and_eggs\"><\/span>Chickens and eggs<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOur biggest challenge is to balance the projects and the investors \u2013 it is chicken and egg,\u201d said\u00a0 D\u00e1vila. \u201cYou have to balance the volume of investors on the platform, and the volume of projects that you have, in order to finance that project fast, really timing when the projects are coming, then creating FOMO among those investors that they are going to miss this opportunity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe have three kinds of investors,\u201d he added. \u201cOn one side, we have professional investors, who invest between \u20ac10,000 and \u20ac50,000. Then there are retail investors, who go in for about \u20ac2,000 a ticket. The third level is those who put in between \u20ac100 and \u20ac2,000.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compliance and due diligence across finance, technical and legal before they sign contracts with clients for the energy projects is the expensive part of doing business for Crowmie, and needs to be outsourced.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For now, the founders are cutting their teeth on projects in Spain, but they\u2019re already looking at expanding into Mexico and Colombia, where their partners have other energy projects.
