Photo by Meron Menghistab for The FADER.<br \/>\n    <\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <span class=\"credit\"><br \/>\n      \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-247259\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            Federal prosecutors in New York serving on the Fetty Wap drug trafficking case are asking for the New Jersey r<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>er to receive a prison sentence of \u201cbetween 87 and 108 months\u201d after the rapper pleaded guilty to conspiracy in August 2022, according to documents obtained by The FADER. <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> of the prosecutor\u2019s request was first reported by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2023\/05\/19\/fetty-wap-wants-mandatory-minimum-sentence-federal-drug-trafficking-case-cocaine-bust\/\">TMZ<\/a>. <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            In the documents, prosecutors cite Fetty\u2019s 2014 hit <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=i_kF4zLNKio\">\u201cTrap Queen\u201d<\/a> in their request for a longer sentence, claiming the rapper told the government that the song was inspired by his past participation in drug trafficking, for which he was never charged, tried, or convicted. \u201c[Fetty Wap] admitted to the Probation Department that his hit song \u2018Trap Queen,\u2019 which was released in 2014, was an \u2018ode to a former girlfriend who assisted him a cocaine base distribution operation in Patterson, New Jersey.\u2019 The defendant was never held accountable for that conduct, but that does not diminish its significance.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>            The official music video for \u201cTrap Queen\u201d is attached in the sentencing document as an exhibit; the government argues that the video\u2019s cast and setting is an example of Fetty Wap glamorizing the drug trade.  \u201cIn the official video for \u2018Trap Queen,\u2019 the defendant also enlisted young children who stood behind him while he idealized selling drugs,\u201d the prosecution writes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            \u201cSweet Yamz,\u201d Fetty Wap\u2019s viral 2022 track, is also cited as an example of Fetty Wap\u2019s alleged idealization of the drug trade. \u201cYams,\u201d the government argues, \u201cis code for grams of narcotics, and making significant money (i.e., \u2018bands\u2019) from that illegal trade.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            Fetty Wap was arrested in October 2021 on his way to perform at Rolling Loud New York. He was labeled by prosecutors as \u201ca kilogram-level redistributor for the trafficking organization\u201d that \u201cdistributed more than 100 kilograms of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine across Long Island and New Jersey.\u201d He has asked for five years in prison, the minimum sentence, but prosecutors argue that the severity of the crime demands a harsher penalty.<\/p>\n<p>            In April, two Democratic representatives introduced the RAP Act, a bill that would clamp down on the ability for prosecutors to use rap lyrics as evidence in criminal trials.
