Ron DeSantis (R) for saying he\u2019ll consider pardoning Jan. 6 defendants if elected president, arguing that anyone with such plans \u201cis not qualified\u201d for the White House.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny candidate who says they will pardon Jan. 6 defendants is not qualified to be President,\u201d Cheney <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Liz_Cheney\/status\/1661848075256623104\">wrote<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>DeSantis, who launched his 2024 campaign on Wednesday, said Thursday that he would consider \u201con day one\u201d pardoning defendants connected to the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol if he won the Oval Office.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn day one, I will have folks that will get together and look at all these cases, who people are victims of weaponization or political targeting, and we will be aggressive in issuing pardons,\u201d DeSantis said on podcast \u201cThe Clay Travis &amp; Buck Sexton Show\u201d when asked about whether he\u2019ll consider pardoning the defendants, including Trump.<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n        The Hill Elections 2024 coverage<br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>Trump is currently facing a federal investigation into the transfer of power in the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>Cheney\u2019s remarks, which followed DeSantis\u2019s comments earlier in the day, also knocked the former president, as Trump has also said he\u2019d consider pardons for Jan. 6 defendants if he gets another term.<\/p>\n<p>The former Wyoming congresswoman was on the House select committee probing Jan. 6, which criminally referred Trump to the Justice Department for inciting an insurrection, conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to make a false statement and obstruction of an official proceeding.<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ has said it\u2019s made more than\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-dc\/28-months-jan-6-attack-capitol\">1,000 arrests<\/a>\u00a0in connection with Jan. 6, and nearly 500 people have been sentenced due to criminal activity that day. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar Media Inc.
