(@bizarre_design \/ via Instagram)<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Brian Laundrie\u2019s mother offered him a shovel and garbage bags if he needed to dispose of a body, according to a letter enclosed in an envelope that said \u201cburn after reading,\u201d court filings reveal.<\/p>\n<p>The letter was released to Gabby Petito\u2019s parents Wednesday after a Florida judge denied a request from Laundrie\u2019s parents to withhold it, as the two families head to a civil trial next year.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2022, Petito&#8217;s family sued Laundrie&#8217;s parents and the Laundries&#8217; former attorney <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/petito-family-sues-brian-laundries-parents-allege-knew-gabby-murdered-rcna19744\" data-ylk=\"slk:for emotional distress;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">for emotional distress <\/a>in connection with her death.<\/p>\n<p>Petito, an aspiring <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/police-reports-social-media-provide-timeline-gabby-petito-s-disappearance-n1279390\" data-ylk=\"slk:social media influencer;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">social media influencer<\/a>, vanished on a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wfla.com\/news\/sarasota-county\/gabby-petito-disappearance-timeline-of-search-for-missing-22-year-old-north-port-woman\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:cross-country trip;cpos:4;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">cross-country trip <\/a>with Laundrie, her fianc\u00e9, in the summer of 2021. The search dominated headlines for weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Petito\u2019s body was found on Sept. 19, 2021, in Wyoming, and the cause of her death was later ruled a homicide as she <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/news\/local\/gabby-petito-autopsy-results-revealed-as-manhunt-for-her-fiance-stretches-into-5th-week\/3317537\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:died by \u201cmanual strangulation;cpos:5;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">died by \u201cmanual strangulation<\/a>\u201c at least <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wyomingnewsnow.tv\/2021\/10\/12\/gabby-petitos-autopsy-results-be-announced\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:three weeks earlier;cpos:6;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">three weeks earlier<\/a>, a coroner said.<\/p>\n<p>Laundrie\u2019s body was found in a nature preserve not far from his parents\u2019 home in Florida on Oct. 20, 2021, and the FBI said he left behind <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:7;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/brian-laundrie-wrote-was-responsible-gabby-petitos-death-fbi-says-rcna13123\" data-ylk=\"slk:writings;cpos:7;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">writings<\/a> \u201cclaiming responsibility\u201d for Petito&#8217;s death. A medical examiner ruled that Laundrie died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_letter\"><\/span>The letter<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Petito&#8217;s parents had requested a copy of Roberta Laundrie&#8217;s letter to her son several times, most recently earlier this month, court filings show.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick Reilly, an attorney for the Petito family, shared a copy of the letter, which was written on a brown card and undated, with NBC <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just want you to remember I will always love you, and I know you will always love me. You are my boy. Nothing can make me stop loving you, nothing will or could ever divide us no matter what we do, or where we go or what we say \u2014 we will always love each other,\u201d Roberta Laundrie wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re in jail, I will bake a cake with a file in it. If you need to dispose of a body, I will show up with a shovel and garbage bags. If you fly to the moon, I will be watching the skies for your re-entry. If you say you hate my guts, I\u2019ll get new guts,\u201d the letter continued.<\/p>\n<p>Roberta Laundrie included a Bible verse from Romans 8:38.<\/p>\n<p>She ended the letter by saying: \u201c(Nothing can separate us: not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not threats, not even sin, not the thinkable or unthinkable can get between us.) ~ Not time. (via Attorney Patrick Reilly)<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Roberta_Laundrie_says_letter_had_nothing_to_do_with_Petito\"><\/span>Roberta Laundrie says letter had nothing to do with Petito<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>An attorney for Laundrie&#8217;s parents filed for a protective order on the letter in March, saying Roberta Laundrie wrote it months before Gabby Petito\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>Roberta Laundrie added in an accompanying affidavit that she wrote the letter to her son at a time when their relationship was \u201cdifficult\u201d and \u201cstrained.\u201d She said that she did not know the exact date she wrote the letter but that she gave it to him before he and Petito left for their <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was trying to connect with Brian and repair our relationship as he was planning to leave home \u2014 and I had hoped this letter would remind him how much I loved him,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>She said that the two shared a love of stories and Petito had given her son a book entitled \u201cBurn After Writing\u201d that they often joked about.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is where my message to Brian came from and I wrote on the cover of the letter for Brian to &#8216;Burn After Reading,&#8217;\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile I used words that seem to have a connection with Brian\u2019s actions and his taking of Gabby\u2019s life, I never would have fathomed the events that unfolded months later between Brian and Gabby would reflect the words in my letter,\u201d Roberta Laundrie said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"caas-figure\">\n<div class=\"caas-figure-with-pb\" style=\"max-height: 844px\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"caas-img-container caas-img-loader\" style=\"padding-bottom:76%;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"caas-img caas-lazy has-preview\" alt=\"A letter Roberta Laundrie wrote to her son, Brian. (via Attorney Patrick Reilly)<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>She said the letter was not in her son\u2019s possession or in his backpack when he died because the FBI had the letter and questioned the Laundrie family about it prior to the discovery of his remains.<\/p>\n<p>Reilly, the attorney for the Petito family, said that the FBI found the letter in a box in a closet in the Laundries&#8217; house. It contained items from the van he and Petito were traveling in, Reilly added.<\/p>\n<p>The Petito family said in a statement after Wednesday&#8217;s proceedings that they <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>reciated the judge&#8217;s ruling, adding that &#8220;she recognized the importance of the &#8216;Burn After Reading&#8217; letter as a potential source of evidence to be used at trial against the Laundries.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The letter is undated, and while Roberta Laundrie has suggested it was written before Brian Laundrie and Gabby Petito left on their trip, a reasonable inference is that it was written after Gabby Petito was murdered, and is evidence that the Laundries and Attorney Bertolino were aware of Gabby Petito\u2019s demise when the statement at issue was released on September 14, 2021,&#8221; the statement said. On that day, the Laundrie family released a statement through their attorney hoping that Petito would be found.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We look forward to having a jury determine when the letter was written at the time of trial,&#8221; the Petito family said.<\/p>\n<p>Laundrie&#8217;s parents insisted the letter had nothing to do with Petito in a statement released by their attorney, Matthew Luka.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe letter to Brian was written prior to Gabby and Brian leaving my home for their trip,\u201d Roberta Laundrie said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I truly loved my son, and simply wanted to convey to him how much he meant to me and how much I loved him. I am sure people use phrases all the time to express to their loved ones the depths of their love.
