\n The 2023 Cannes International Film Festival is coming to an end with the awards ceremony for the 76th festival. <\/p>\n

\n The closing ceremony has kicked off at the Palais des Festivals\u2019 Grand Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Lumi\u00e8re in Cannes Saturday night. This year\u2019s jury, headed by Swedish director Ruben \u00d6stlund \u2014 a two-time Cannes\u2019 winner, who last year took home the Palme d\u2019Or for best film for Triangle of Sadness<\/em> \u2014\u00a0will pick the winners among the 21 films in competition. This year\u2019s jury also includes Brie Larson, Paul Dano, Maryam Touzani, Denis M\u00e9nochet, Rungano Nyoni, Atiq Rahimi, Dami\u00e1n Szifron and Julia Ducournau.<\/p>\n

\n The closing ceremony, which marks the end of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, is airing live on French network France 2 and streaming worldwide on the Brut international channel<\/a>. The awards will be followed by the world premiere screening of Disney\/Pixar\u2019s Elemental<\/em> from director Peter Sohn. <\/p>\n

\n In a change this year, the festival will have a series<\/a> of celebrity actors and filmmakers hand out the main 2023 honors. Orlando Bloom will hand out the jury prize. Parasite<\/em> star Song Kang-ho, last year\u2019s best actor winner for Broker<\/em>, will present the best actress honor, with Cannes 2022\u2019s best actress, Holy Spider<\/em> star Zar Amir Ebrahimi, presenting the best actor award. John C. Reilly, president of this year\u2019s Un Certain Regard Jury, will award the trophy for best screenplay. Pixar Studios\u2019 creative director Pete Docter will present the best director prize. The 1994 Palme d\u2019Or winner, Quentin Tarantino, and legendary cult filmmaker Roger Corman will jointly present the runner-up Grand Prix award, with veteran star Jane Fonda capp<\/a>ing the evening with the presentation of the Palme d\u2019Or.<\/p>\n

\n Of the 21 films in competition for the Palme this year, several are from previous winners, including two-timer Palmer Ken Loach, a winner in 2006 for The Wind that Shakes the Barley<\/em>, and in 2016 for I, Daniel Blake<\/em>, back on the Croisette with The Old Oak<\/em>. Nanni Moretti, whose A Son\u2019s Room<\/em> took the Palme in 2001, is in the running with A Brighter Tomorrow<\/em>. The 2018 winner, Kore-Eda Hirokazu (Shoplifters<\/em>), is back with Monster<\/em>; Turkish director, and 2015 Cannes winners Nuri Bilge Ceylan (for Winter Sleep<\/em>), returning with About Dry Grasses<\/em>; and Cannes\u2019 1984 winner Wim Wenders (Paris Texas<\/em>) back in competition with Perfect Days<\/em>. This year\u2019s line-up also includes Kidnapped<\/em>, the latest from Italian cinema maestro Marco Bellocchio, who received an honorary Palme d\u2019Or for his life\u2019s work in 2021. <\/p>\n

\n But there is no clear favorite going into this year\u2019s awards. Jonathan Glazer\u2019s holocaust drama The Zone of Interest<\/em>, Aki Kaurism\u00e4ki\u2019s droll Finnish dramedy Fallen Leaves<\/em>, Alice Rohrwacher\u2019s archeological thriller La Chimera<\/em>, Kaouther Ben Hania\u2019s docudrama Four Daughters<\/em>, Catherine Corsini\u2019s French family drama Homecoming<\/em>, Todd Haynes\u2019 May December<\/em>, a melodrama on fame and scandal, Tran Anh H\u00f9ng\u2019s foodie romance The Pot-au-Feu<\/em>, Wang Bing\u2019s documentary on Chinese garment workers, Youth (Spring)<\/em>, Justine Triet\u2019s French courtroom thriller Anatomy of a Fall<\/em>, and Karim A\u00efnouz\u2019s historical drama Firebrand<\/em>, all scored high with critics this year. <\/p>\n

\n Jessica Hausner\u2019s wellness satire Club Zero<\/em>, Jean-St\u00e9phane Sauvaire\u2019s paramedic thriller Black Flies<\/em>, Senegalese-set mythic romance Banel e Adama<\/em> by first-time director Ramata-Toulaye Sy, Catherine Breillat\u2019s Last Summer<\/em>, an erotic thriller about an intergenerational romance, and Wes Anderson\u2019s star-studded Asteroid City<\/em> were more divisive, but all had their supporters. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
