Because you <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>arently admitted to multiple violations of Federal criminal law, you should resign im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely,\u201d Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), the top Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee, and Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-Md.) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/democrats-homeland.house.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/letter_calling_on_ig_cuffari_to_resign.pdf\">wrote in\u00a0a letter<\/a>\u00a0to Joseph Cuffari, who leads the agency\u2019s Office of Inspector General.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Cuffari, who appeared before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, said as much directly when under questioning by Ivey \u2014 an eyebrow-raising admission following lawmaker frustration with his handling of an investigation into missing Secret Service text messages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s my normal practice to delete text messages,\u201d Cuffari said, answering \u201ccorrect\u201d when Ivey asked if he does this on an ongoing basis.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1400\" height=\"787\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/05\/thompsonbennie_041923gn01_w.jpg?w=900\" alt=\"Rep. (AP Photo\/Jacquelyn Martin)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Cuffari, a Trump appointee, is under investigation by the Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency and has been the subject of a\u00a0litany of complaints\u00a0in both the House and Senate as well as from his own staff.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers on the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol were furious to learn of Cuffari\u2019s delays in notifying them that Secret Service messages from the day of the attack were apparently lost in a software transition.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>There are multiple provisions in the Inspectors General Act that require notifying agency heads or Congress about \u201cparticularly serious or flagrant problems,\u201d in some cases within seven days.<\/p>\n<p>In the same hearing Cuffari said he was also responsible for signing off on removing a reference in a semi-annual report that would have advertised the Inspector General Office\u2019s difficulty in obtaining the messages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was working with senior leadership and the Department of Homeland Security to get the records we were lawfully entitled to receive,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\">\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"More_DHS_coverage_from_The_Hill\"><\/span>More DHS coverage from The Hill:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\">In the Senate, lawmakers have accused Cuffari of suppressing a report about sexual harassment at DHS.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A group of employees who work for Cuffari have also called on President Biden to remove their boss, saying they\u2019ve lost hope the \u201cship will right itself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cuffari\u2019s office did not respond to request for comment on the letter.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>He has also faced earlier calls to step aside from the Jan. 6 investigation \u2014 calls he did not heed.<\/p>\n<p>Despite lawmaker grumblings, only Biden has the power to remove Cuffari.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar Media Inc.
