{"id":578230,"date":"2023-06-11T17:19:46","date_gmt":"2023-06-11T14:19:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/dana-bash-spars-with-jim-jordan-over-trump-indictment\/"},"modified":"2023-06-11T17:19:46","modified_gmt":"2023-06-11T14:19:46","slug":"dana-bash-spars-with-jim-jordan-over-trump-indictment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/dana-bash-spars-with-jim-jordan-over-trump-indictment\/","title":{"rendered":"#Dana Bash spars with Jim Jordan over Trump indictment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/05\/jordanjim_051023gn05_w.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) on Sunday sparred with CNN\u2019s Dana Bash over former President Trump\u2019s indictment in the Justice Department\u2019s probe into his handling of classified documents.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan, who firmly defended Trump during the segment, stressed his stance that \u201cthe president\u2019s ability to classify and control access to national security information flows from the Constitution\u201d and that \u201che can put it wherever he wants, he can handle it however he wants.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>But Bash pushed back, noting a recording of Trump that revealed he acknowledged he couldn\u2019t declassify documents once he was no longer in the White House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe says point blank on tape, \u2018As president, I could have declassified it. Now I can\u2019t.\u2019 \u2026 It\u2019s on tape as part of this indictment that he did not declassify the material,\u201d Bash said of Trump, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/06\/09\/politics\/trump-tape-didnt-declassify-secret-information\/index.html\">referring<\/a> to a tran<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a> of an audio recording obtained by CNN. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSaying he could have is not the same as saying he did it,\u201d Jordan said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said, \u2018Now I can\u2019t,&#8217;\u201d Bash said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow he can\u2019t \u2014 right, because he\u2019s not president now. But when he was president he did declassify,\u201d Jordan said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich means that it\u2019s classified. Which means that what he was holding was classified,\u201d Bash said as the two talked over each other.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cNot if he declassified it when he was president of the United States, for goodness sake,\u201d Jordan said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut he\u2019s saying point blank in this audio tape that he did not declassify it. What you\u2019re saying just doesn\u2019t make sense on its face,\u201d Bash said.<\/p>\n<p>Trump was indicted last week on 37 counts in connection to the mishandling of records as well as his efforts to prevent the government from recovering the documents after the end of his White House term, according to the unsealed indictment.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Bash repeatedly pressed Jordan over Trump appearing to admit he did not declassify documents, some of which had to do with the country\u2019s military and foreign defense capabilities, U.S. nuclear programs and potential vulnerabilities of the U.S. and it\u2019s allied. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you have evidence that the president \u2014 when he was president, now former president \u2014 actually declassified these documents before he took them?\u201d Bash asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI go on the president\u2019s word and he said he did,\u201d responded Jordan, who has consistently been one of Trump\u2019s closest allies in Congress.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a> Inc.
