\n Until now, Diane Keaton has been wondering for decades why she was even cast in Francis Ford Coppola\u2019s The Godfather<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n On Friday, the filmmaker took to his Instagram Stories for an \u201cAsk me anything\u201d session<\/a>, encouraging fans to ask him about his life, work and career achievements. Among those who responded was none other than the Book Club: The Next Chapter<\/em> actress.<\/p>\n

\n Coppola proceeded to post Keaton\u2019s question for all to read: \u201cWhy on Earth did you choose me for\u00a0The Godfather<\/em>?!!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n The Oscar-winning actress took on the role of Kay Adams-Corleone, the wife of Al Pacino\u2019s Michael Corleone, in the 1972 film, which quickly became a cult classic.<\/p>\n

\n The director responded to her question, writing, \u201cI chose you, because although you were to play the more straight\/vanilla wife, there was something more about you, deeper, funnier, and very interesting. (I was right).\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Coppola also shared the first time he witnessed Keaton in her element \u2013 during a performance of the Broadway musical Hair<\/em>, which was also the actress\u2019s first major stage role. \u201cI was invited by Fred Astaire to accompany him to see Hair<\/em>,\u201d he added. \u201cWhich he couldn\u2019t make \u2018hide nor hair\u2019 out of. You were in it, and I remember your beautiful singing voice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n After The Godfather<\/em> launched her into stardom, Keaton later reprised her role in 1974\u2019s\u00a0The Godfather Part II\u00a0<\/em>and in 1990\u2019s\u00a0The Godfather Part III<\/em>. Then in 2020, a recut version of the third film, titled The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone<\/em>, was released for the 30th anniversary of the original version.<\/p>\n

\n During the AMA session, Coppola was also asked if he would make a fourth Godfather\u00a0<\/em>film. He responded, \u201cIn my mind there is one 1 film known as The Godfather<\/em> (Parts I and II) and an epilogue or \u2018Coda\u2019 The Death of Michael Corleone.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
