{"id":579100,"date":"2023-06-18T01:42:08","date_gmt":"2023-06-17T22:42:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/trumps-former-fixer-michael-cohen-denied-bid-for-early-release-from-probation\/"},"modified":"2023-06-18T01:42:08","modified_gmt":"2023-06-17T22:42:08","slug":"trumps-former-fixer-michael-cohen-denied-bid-for-early-release-from-probation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/trumps-former-fixer-michael-cohen-denied-bid-for-early-release-from-probation\/","title":{"rendered":"#Trump\u2019s former fixer Michael Cohen denied bid for early release from probation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/AP23072775091549-e1687041437734.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Michael Cohen, former President Trump\u2019s onetime fixer and a key witness in the Manhattan district attorney\u2019s case against the former president, was denied his latest bid for an early release from probation on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.nysd.499666\/gov.uscourts.nysd.499666.87.0.pdf\">rejected<\/a>\u00a0Cohen\u2019s most recent request to end his probation early, ruling that it would not serve its purpose of rehabilitation or deterrence from future crimes.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Cohen pleaded guilty to a variety of charges in 2018, including criminal tax evasion and campaign finance violations. The campaign finance violations relate in part to a $130,000 payment that Cohen made to adult film star Stormy Daniels to buy her silence about an alleged affair with Trump ahead of the 2016 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>He was sentenced to three years in prison and three years of supervised release. However, Cohen was transferred to home confinement after a little over a year in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s former personal attorney has petitioned the court three times since beginning probation for an early release, including last July, last December and this May.<\/p>\n<p>Federal prosecutors argued that Cohen simply recycled his previous claims for an early release, which have all been rejected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead, many of the defendant\u2019s arguments are the same ones previously considered and rejected by the Court,\u201d U.S. attorney Damian Williams said. \u201cThere is no reason, six months later, to reconsider that decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Williams also noted that Cohen\u2019s recent comments in a book and television <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earance suggest that he has not \u201ctaken full responsibility for his actions.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201c[W]hile Cohen is free to write and say what he wants, he cannot simultaneously distance himself from his conduct on cable <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>, while cloaking himself in claims of acceptance of responsibility in court filings,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCohen\u2019s recent efforts to back away from his prior acceptance of responsibility is evidence of the ongoing need for specific deterrence,\u201d Williams added.<\/p>\n<p>The $130,000 hush money payment that Cohen served time for would ultimately result in the first ever indictment of a former president.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Trump was charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in connection with the hush money payment this April.
