Edgar Hoover building to be in their home state, but are all fighting for a replacement to be included at all in the upcoming government spending package in the face of GOP dissatisfaction with the FBI. A spending deal is needed to avert a government shutdown by Sept. 30.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Separately, the foursome \u2014 Sens. Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and Mark Warner (D-Va.) \u2014 is battling an expansion of direct long-distance flights out of DCA as part of the FAA reauthorization bill that also must pass by Sept. 30.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The push-pull nature of their efforts is putting them in the middle of key battles as the race to craft must-pass legislation heats up.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt sort of feels like we always are [in the eye of the storm]. \u2026 It\u2019s a challenge,\u201d Kaine told The Hill. \u201cIt\u2019s just like, \u2018One more thing.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the FBI fight has been going strong for months, the issue surrounding Reagan National and the impact on other DMV airports cropped up late last week in the form of a proposed amendment to the FAA reauthorization bill that would increase the number of flights out of DCA outside of the 1,250-mile perimeter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At present, the airport has only 11 flights to cities outside that perimeter. The amendment, which is supported by both Senate Commerce Committee Chairwoman Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), the panel\u2019s ranking member, would add four flight slots for long-distance cities. A Thursday markup on the bill was scr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ed as negotiations continue over an unrelated provision centered on airline pilot qualifications.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, the DMV-based senators are going to the mat to stop the amendment, saying they will use every tool available to them to defeat it. They penned an\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2023\/06\/14\/kaine-warner-van-hollen-cardin-dca-perimeter-rules\/?utm_source=Sailthru&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=6\/15\/23%20%20Punchbowl%20News%20AM\">op-ed in The Washington Post<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday taking aim at the proposal, arguing that Reagan National is already bursting at the seams and cannot handle more flights without an increase in delays and longer lines.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just an issue we\u2019ve got to battle on,\u201d Kaine said, noting that members are discussing a compromise amendment for inclusion in the FAA bill. \u201cWarner and I just want to say don\u2019t screw around on it. It\u2019s working right now. Please don\u2019t screw around with it. We don\u2019t like the compromise. \u2026 We have every option on the table.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those supportive of the amendment argue it should be easier to visit the nation\u2019s capital.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Left unsaid by supporters is that lawmakers widely prefer <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ing out of DCA instead of either Dulles International Airport or Baltimore\/Washington International Airport, both of which are better suited to handle long-distance flights but are further from the city.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Meanwhile the FBI battle has put the group of Democratic senators in a spot they <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly don\u2019t find themselves: fighting one another. The push to find a new headquarters for the FBI has been roughly decade-long process that is nearing an end, with the General Services Administration expected to announce a locale in the near future. It is considering a site in Northern Virginia and two in Prince George\u2019s County.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) tossed a wrench into the push in recent weeks by expressing support for eliminating funding for the effort over the FBI\u2019s role in the indictment of former President Trump for his handling of classified documents.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, Democrats still find it hard to believe that it would be excluded altogether.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201c[Kaine] and I both believe the idea that somehow the whole notion of the FBI building is going to be held hostage is evident that a lot of House members have never visited the FBI headquarters that literally is falling in on itself,\u201d Warner told The Hill. \u201cIt\u2019s never a dull time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Virginia seemed to gain an advantage this week as an\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.marylandmatters.org\/2023\/06\/09\/after-fbi-document-shows-preference-for-headquarters-relocation-in-virginia-maryland-officials-blast-off\/\">FBI document\u00a0<\/a>showed that the Bureau prefers the new headquarters be located close to its training academy in Quantico, upsetting those in the Old Line State\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Senators in both delegations acknowledged the semi-high wire act they are pulling off in the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of talks as they deal with issues that come with representing states that encircle the District.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cWe obviously have very different views on the best home for the FBI,\u201d Van Hollen said, noting that the locations in Prince George\u2019s County would cost taxpayers roughly $1 billion less than those in Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Congress, part of the job is working together as allies on one project where we have mutual interests, and duking it out where you don\u2019t,\u201d Van Hollen added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a> Inc.
