\n A Wisconsin gym apologized for offering a new workout titled \u201cI Can\u2019t Breathe\u201d \u2014 some of George Floyd\u2019s final words \u2014 with a display showing a man down on one knee.<\/p>\n

An image of a dry erase board describing the workout at AnytimeFitness in Wauwatosa spread quickly across social media<\/a> platforms, drawing sharp criticism from users over its similarities to the manner in which Floyd died.<\/p>\n

The descript<\/a>ion of the over 35-minute workout included the phrase, \u201cAnd don\u2019t you dare lay down.\u201d It\u2019s wasn\u2019t clear what the saying referred to.<\/p>\n

\u201cReally concerned that @AnytimeFitness finds mocking the death of George Floyd appropriate racism is alive in Wauwatosa #Milwaukee,\u201d one Twitter user wrote.<\/p>\n

On Reddit, where the image is believed to have first surfaced, one user commented: \u201cTalk about tone-deaf.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFire the person who thought this was clever or funny. Making light of a man\u2019s brutal murder. Sad sick people,\u201d another Reddit user wrote.<\/p>\n

Floyd died on May 25 after a white Minneapolis cop, Derek Chauvin, knelt on his neck for nearly 9 minutes. In a recording of the fatal encounter, Floyd could be heard saying, \u201cI cannot breathe! I cannot breathe!\u201d<\/p>\n

His death has sparked worldwide protests over police brutality and racial injustice.<\/p>\n

The gym on Wednesday issued an apology, saying they \u201care terribly sorry for our actions this week by offering an \u2018I Can\u2019t Breathe\u2019 workout.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo matter our intent, we now recognize how deeply offensive our words, illustrations and actions have been,\u201d the statement, which was posted to Facebook, read.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
