\n Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will \u201chopefully\u201d unveil a new coronavirus relief package next week, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Fox Business Network in an interview Monday, Mnuchin, one of President Trump\u2019s top negotiators in crafting the latest bill, said that he and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows had been in daily contact with McConnell (R-Ky.) and Senate Republicans by phone.<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully Mitch [McConnell] will enter new legislation next week,\u201d he said when asked about the Congressional stalemate between House Democrats, Senate Republicans and the White House on the next round of coronavirus funding.<\/p>\n

The treasury secretary added that the GOP-backed legislation would focus on children, jobs and liability protections for small businesses \u2014 a red line for Republicans.<\/p>\n

The timeline matches up with that of Senate GOP Conference Chairman John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), who told PBS Tuesday morning that the \u201cgoal\u201d was to vote on the \u201cskinny\u201d coronavirus relief package sometime next week.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a focused, targeted solution that we hope that the House would pass and the House would agree to,\u201d he said, adding that the legislation was \u201cfocused on getting people back to work, getting kids back to school.\u201d<\/p>\n

The bill \u201cleaves out\u2026the so many things that Pelosi has put in her bill that are unrelated to coronavirus,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Still, Barrasso warned that the \u201cskinny\u201d version of the GOP-backed bill still needs the support of the overall Senate Republican Conference, which meets virtually every morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re having a conference call every morning. We have one again today with Secretary Mnuchin and the White House chief of staff to go over that, and that\u2019s the goal \u2014 is to come back and vote to move that,\u201d the Wyoming senator said.<\/p>\n

In his Fox Business interview, Mnuchin slammed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who he said \u201cjust don\u2019t want to negotiate in good faith,\u201d despite their agreement on \u201cmany, many issues.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe president wants us to help with more money for kids and jobs. We\u2019re going to keep trying because it\u2019s too important for the American people,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Democrats and Republicans have not engaged in coronavirus relief package negotiations since early August, when both parties reached a stalemate.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
