{"id":580706,"date":"2023-06-29T21:15:49","date_gmt":"2023-06-29T18:15:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/gop-requests-interviews-with-hunter-biden-investigators\/"},"modified":"2023-06-29T21:15:49","modified_gmt":"2023-06-29T18:15:49","slug":"gop-requests-interviews-with-hunter-biden-investigators","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/gop-requests-interviews-with-hunter-biden-investigators\/","title":{"rendered":"#GOP requests interviews with Hunter Biden investigators"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/ca_hunterbiden_getty.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>House Republicans are seeking interviews with more than a dozen figures involved in the Hunter Biden investigation as part of a probe into whether there was \u201cequal enforcement of the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden, the president\u2019s son, agreed to a plea deal yet to be <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roved by a judge that charges him with failure to pay taxes and would also require him to enter a diversion program on a separate gun charge.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> of the agreement was followed the next day by the release of a transcript from an interview with IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley, who alleged Biden was given preferential treatment and that the investigation was slow-walked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The request from a trio of committee leaders seeks to speak with David Weiss, the U.S. attorney for Delaware who led the investigation, as well as a deputy, Lesley Wolf. It also requests an interview with U.S. Attorney for D.C. Matthew Graves, who Shapley alleged opposed bringing charges against Biden in the district.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The request also seeks interviews with numerous other FBI, DOJ, and IRS employees.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecent startling testimony from Internal Revenue Service whistleblowers raises serious questions about the Department\u2019s commitment to evenhanded justice and the veracity of assertions made to the Committee on the Judiciary,\u201d lawmakers wrote in a letter to Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Merrick Garland.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The letter was sent by Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (Ohio), Oversight Chair James Comer (Ky.) and Ways and Means Chair Jason Smith (Mo.).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpecifically, the Committees seek to examine whistleblower claims that the Department\u2019s investigation of Hunter Biden was purposely slow-walked and subjected to improper and politically motivated interference,\u201d the three men wrote.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Biden\u2019s lawyer has refuted that investigators were anything other than diligent in their five-year investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was a five year, very diligent investigation pursued by incredibly professional prosecutors, some of whom have been career prosecutors, one of whom at least was appointed by President Trump,\u201d Chris Clark said during an appearance on MSNBC with Katy Tur last week.<\/p>\n<p>Clark later said he\u2019s unsure whether someone who was not as high profile as Biden would have been prosecuted for the crime.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very clear he didn\u2019t timely pay the taxes he was supposed to pay at the time. He subsequently has paid them, but he didn\u2019t timely pay them. I think it\u2019s a very hard question whether I would have been prosecuted for that or not. And I think I could have been, but I think that\u2019s a hard question, and it\u2019s one I can\u2019t answer,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Garland\u2019s office acknowledged receipt but declined to comment further. Neither Wiess\u2019s nor Graves\u2019s offices responded to request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Shapley said Weiss\u2019s office relayed they were told they could not bring charges in D.C., where he believes the strongest case could be had regarding Biden\u2019s tax evasion. He alleged that Graves, the U.S. attorney for D.C., would not allow Weiss to bring charges in his district.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Justice Department officials have sharply denied that.<\/p>\n<p>Garland has maintained before lawmakers and under questioning from reporters that Weiss had the authority under both the Trump and Biden administrations to handle the case as he saw fit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI certainly understand that some have chosen to attack the integrity of the Justice Department, and its components, and its employees, by claiming that we do not treat like cases alike. This constitutes an attack on an institution that is essential to American democracy and essential to the safety of the American people. Nothing could be further from the truth,\u201d Garland said Friday.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ve all heard me say many times that we make our cases based on the facts and the law. These are not just words. These are what we live by.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Weiss has also told lawmakers that he had total authority.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to make clear that, as the Attorney General has stated, I have been granted ultimate authority over this matter, including responsibility for deciding where, when, and whether to file charges,\u201d Weiss told House Judiciary Committee members in a June letter.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Graves has also contested Shapley\u2019s assertion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the Attorney General has said, U.S. Attorney Weiss was given full authority to bring charges in any jurisdiction he deemed appropriate.
