Former President Reagan finished his second term at 77, while former President Trump \u2014 who is the favorite to win the GOP presidential nomination \u2014 ended his first term at 74.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Biden has some work to do to convince voters he has the mental and physical capacity to run for reelection.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A whopping 68 percent of voters in a recent\u00a0NBC <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a>\u00a0poll\u00a0said they worry about Biden\u2019s health with 55 percent reflecting \u201cmajor\u201d concerns.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2023\/06\/13\/bidens-age-and-trumps-legal-perils-are-liabilities-with-voters-poll\/70310586007\/\">USA Today\/Suffolk University\u00a0poll<\/a>\u00a0of Democrats and Independents, 37 percent say the president\u2019s age made them less likely to vote for him. A third\u00a0poll\u00a0from\u00a0The Economist-YouGov\u00a0found that 45 percent of independents say Biden\u2019s health and age \u201cseverely limit his ability to do the job.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president\u2019s age is certainly going to be a headwind on his reelection campaign. The polling\u00a0says so, and the examples will certainly keep coming as he is in the public eye,\u201d said Stewart Verdery, who served in former President George W. Bush\u2019s administration.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But Verdery, the CEO of Monument Advocacy, said Biden\u2019s age might not be as much of an issue in a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> election against Trump, who is 77 years old.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cIf he were likely running against a modern JFK on a sailboat, it might be more of an issue. But as long as his main foil is in Mar-a-Lago, the president\u2019s age may cause swing voters to pause before they still pull the lever for him,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The White House this week pushed back on questions about Biden\u2019s health.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president \u2014 shoot, he <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ed yesterday, he\u2019s traveling again today. You saw how extensively he traveled during the midterms. And especially his foreign travel, this is someone who is incredibly active as president,\u201d press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Biden increasingly has been self-deprecating about his age, joking he is 198, 103 or 110 in recent speeches.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s acknowledging his age is an issue for some voters, and he has reportedly sought the counsel of Hollywood mogul Jeffrey Katzenberg, who is encouraging him to own his longevity like Harrison Ford and Mick Jagger.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy the way, I\u2019ve been doing this a long time. I know I don\u2019t look that old. I know. I\u2019m a little under 103,\u201d Biden said in recent remarks. \u201cBut all kidding aside \u2026 I was a pretty powerful senator.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Still, the 80-year-old president\u2019s age is also now something that carries over into everything he does, putting a physical or verbal stumble under a different kind of microscope.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When he tripped and fell at an event earlier this summer, there were worries about his health. To his political foes, it was evidence of his fragile state, even if a younger man might also have tripped.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Monday night and Tuesday, Biden, who has a long history of misstatements, twice confused Ukraine for Iraq.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Opponents seize on these mistakes as evidence that Biden has lost a step and should not be running for a second term.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Republican presidential candidate Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, in an interview with Fox News this week, said he thinks California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is \u201cmaneuvering in the background,\u201d and it would be interesting to see how things play out \u201cif Biden doesn\u2019t ultimately make it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey would have a real clown show if Biden wasn\u2019t able to make it,\u201d he added. His comments echo fellow Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, who said in April that Biden is unlikely to \u201cmake it\u201d to 86.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Some political analysts\u00a0think\u00a0the GOP is playing with fire in going after Biden\u2019s age, even if it is an issue for some voters. They say it risks angering older voters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can point it out, but you don\u2019t want to lean in too heavily here,\u201d said GOP strategist Doug Heye. \u201cTone is important here. You can talk about mistakes that he\u2019s\u00a0made\u00a0and so forth. But\u00a0if\u00a0you\u2019re over the top, you [risk] a backlash, especially with senior voters.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n        The Hill Elections 2024 coverage<br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Jim Kessler, executive vice president for policy for the Democratic think tank Third Way, said the best thing for the White House to do is focus on the president\u2019s accomplishments.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr7_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThey can make a counterargument, which is that his experience has made the difference. And if you looked at what he\u2019s accomplished in the last two and a half years, it\u2019s close to a biblical miracle,\u201d he said. \u201cLike, no one thought the number of bipartisan bills passed the last Congress was possible. And it h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ened. He outfoxed Vladimir Putin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The White House this week confirmed Biden began using a CPAP machine in recent weeks to improve his sleep quality after reporters noticed lines visible on his face.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While Trump is nearing 80, Republicans argue his apparent energy gives him an advantage over Biden.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Heye said voters will ultimately get to compare the two if they win their parties\u2019 nominations and debate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Democrats are brushing off the verbal gaffes, noting they took place with Biden was younger, too.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Biden\u2019s age has been an issue since before the 2020 election, and he\u2019s been notorious for making gaffes most of his political career. There\u2019s really not much new here,\u201d one Biden ally said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Biden faces other challenges, including the economy and son Hunter Biden\u2019s legal problems, which have drawn GOP scrutiny. These are also factors in his lower approval ratings which have lingered around 40 percent. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Still, many see age as an issue where Biden will once again have to prove something to the electorate.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe No. 1 thing I hear about Biden, and it doesn\u2019t matter where I am, is his age. And that\u2019s true of people who like them.
