presidential nomination is fully underway, with all eyes turning to the first debate on Aug. 23 in Milwaukee to see who qualifies.<\/p>\n<p>To make the debate stage, candidates must meet\u00a0a number of\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/gop.com\/press-release\/rnc-announces-criteria-and-date-for-first-debate-in-milwaukee\/\">criteria set by<\/a>\u00a0the Republican National Committee (RNC).<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>A candidate must register at least 1 percent in at least three national polls or 1 percent in two national polls and in a poll from two of the first four states to vote in the GOP caucuses and primaries \u2014 Iowa, New Hampshire,\u00a0South Carolina\u00a0and Nevada.<\/p>\n<p>They also must bring in at least 40,000 unique donors, including at least 200 unique donors from 20 or more states and territories. They also must sign a loyalty pledge to support the eventual Republican nominee, a point of contention among some\u00a0candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s\u00a0what we know so far about\u00a0the top\u00a0candidates\u2019 chances to qualify for the first GOP primary debate in August.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Donald_Trump\"><\/span><strong>Donald Trump<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Trump will meet the criteria for making the stage.<\/p>\n<p>Yet his participation is still a factor.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, the frontrunner for the Republican nomination, has\u00a0said\u00a0that he is still deciding whether he wants to\u00a0participate\u00a0in the debate hosted by Fox <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a>, which he accuses of unfair treatment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>He also argues any debate without him will be seen by fewer people, and has questioned whether he\u2019d just help rivals by showing up.<\/p>\n<p>Trump told Fox News anchor Bret Baier in\u00a0a recent\u00a0in a recent interview\u00a0that\u00a0he has not made a final decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like to debate, I don\u2019t mind it at all, but when you\u2019re 40 points up \u2026 why would I let them take shots at me,\u201d he said, referring to his Republican rivals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The former president also\u00a0refused to commit\u00a0to supporting the eventual nominee regardless of who it is if he does not win the nomination during an interview with conservative radio show host Hugh Hewitt in February. He said his decision to back the nominee would depend on who it is.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ron_DeSantis\"><\/span><strong>Ron DeSantis<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Florida governor, who has\u00a0placed consistently in second place behind Trump in GOP primary polls,\u00a0should not have any difficulty meeting the requirements for qualifying for the debate.<\/p>\n<p>He is the only candidate other than Trump who has consistently received double-digit support in polls\u00a0and\u00a0brought in $8.2 million\u00a0in the first 24 hours after he launched his campaign in May. Trump\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/01\/31\/us\/politics\/trump-fundraising-2024-campaign.html\">raised $9.5 million<\/a>\u00a0during the first month and a half of his campaign, according to The New York Times.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>DeSantis has avoided saying specifically if he would support Trump if the former president wins the nomination.\u00a0He said during a recent event in Tampa that people should \u201crespect the process\u201d and \u201cthe people\u2019s decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He later emphasized that he did not \u201cavoid\u201d the question\u00a0of whether he would support Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said, you run this process, you compete, and you respect the outcome of the process. And\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0always said that. And so\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0what I said before.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0what\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0do. I think\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0going to be the nominee. But no matter what h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ens,\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0going to work to beat Joe Biden.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0what you\u00a0have to\u00a0do,\u201d DeSantis said.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mike_Pence\"><\/span><strong>Mike Pence<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Former Vice President Pence\u00a0has\u00a0most commonly placed\u00a0in third behind Trump and DeSantis\u00a0in GOP primary polling and has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly\u00a0received\u00a0support in the mid-to-upper single digits, so he should\u00a0easily\u00a0meet the polling threshold quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Pence, who\u00a0joined the race a few weeks ago after months of speculation,\u00a0has\u00a0a shorter\u00a0period of time\u00a0to meet the fundraising requirements than other candidates, but he has\u00a0an\u00a0advantage of widespread name recognition.<\/p>\n<p>He said during a CNN town hall\u00a0after\u00a0he kicked off his candidacy that\u00a0he would back the\u00a0Republican nominee.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve\u00a0always supported the Republican nominee for president in the United States. And\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0support the Republican nominee in 2024, especially if\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Pence had previously said he\u00a0believes Trump\u2019s role\u00a0in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection should disqualify him for office, but\u00a0he said at the town hall he does not expect Trump to be the nominee. Still, he said he was \u201cvery confident\u201d\u00a0Republicans will get behind the eventual nominee.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Nikki_Haley\"><\/span><strong>Nikki Haley<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Haley, the former ambassador to the United Nations and former South Carolina governor, has polled in the upper echelon of candidates\u00a0following Trump and DeSantis\u00a0and will\u00a0likely meet\u00a0the polling requirements comfortably.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr7_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>She became the first major candidate to announce a run against Trump when she launched her candidacy in February\u00a0and has among the most time of any candidate to meet the\u00a0donor\u00a0requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Her campaign told The Hill that Haley has already met the fundraising requirements and will be on the stage for the first debate. The campaign also said\u00a0Haley will agree to sign the loyalty pledge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbsolutely irresponsible that Trump, DeSantis, and others\u00a0won\u2019t\u00a0commit 100% to supporting the Republican nominee.\u00a0There\u2019s\u00a0no room for personal vendettas in this battle to save our country,\u201d Haley\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NikkiHaley\/status\/1672344160727183365\">tweeted last month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tim_Scott\"><\/span><strong>Tim Scott<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.)\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6328902555112\">said during an interview<\/a>\u00a0on \u201cAmerica\u2019s Newsroom\u201d on Fox News in early\u00a0June\u00a0that he had met the requirements for\u00a0participating\u00a0in the debate.<\/p>\n<p>He has consistently received at least a few percentage points of support in polls\u00a0and\u00a0reached as high as 10 percent in a South Carolina poll late last month.\u00a0Scott has been widely successful in fundraising during his Senate\u00a0campaigns and\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/prolific-fundraiser-tim-scott-hauls-2-million-first-24-hours-2024-presidential-campaign\">brought<\/a>\u00a0in $2 million in the 24 hours after\u00a0starting\u00a0his presidential run.<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0indicated\u00a0during an interview with Neil Cavuto in May that he would support the eventual nominee, saying\u00a0all\u00a0the GOP candidates would be \u201cbetter than any Democrat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Scott\u2019s campaign told The Hill that Scott \u201clooks forward\u201d to being on the debate stage.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Vivek_Ramaswamy\"><\/span><strong>Vivek Ramaswamy<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Ramaswamy was\u00a0virtually unknown\u00a0before joining the GOP race, but\u00a0he has risen in the race and\u00a0generally received\u00a0at least 1 percent in the polls, if not more.<\/p>\n<p>He has emphasized \u201cgrassroots\u201d funding as the key to success in early-voting states and appears to be on track to meet the fundraising threshold to qualify for the debate.\u00a0He reported having donations\u00a0from\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/ramaswamy-spotlights-shattering-grassroots-fundraising-expectations-2024-gop-presidential-nomination-bid\">more than 10,000 donors<\/a>\u00a0in the first month of his campaign and from almost 30,000\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/vivek-ramaswamy-says-no-limit-what-self-invest-gop-presidential-campaign\">donors<\/a>\u00a0as of early\u00a0May.<\/p>\n<p>Ramaswamy\u00a0told Fox News in an\u00a0interview that he would sign the loyalty pledge but only if all other candidates did too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I\u2019ll say is, if the other candidates in this race make that pledge, I will stand by and be willing to, because that\u2019s a condition for open debate in our own party,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Chris_Christie\"><\/span><strong>Chris Christie<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The former New Jersey governor\u00a0has positioned himself as a leading opponent of Trump in the race, and his poll numbers\u00a0appear to be\u00a0rising recently. He\u00a0came in third\u00a0in a\u00a0New Hampshire poll with 6 percent <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/23858265-230169-nbc-june-2023-poll_625-first-release\">and placed fourth<\/a>\u00a0in a national poll with 5 percent recently.<\/p>\n<p>Christie has also reportedly <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/06\/20\/chris-christie-big-donors-trump-fight.html\">taken in funding<\/a>\u00a0from major GOP donors.<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0has attacked\u00a0the RNC\u2019s loyalty pledge, calling it a \u201cuseless idea\u201d during a CNN interview last month, but he said he will do whatever is needed to be on the debate stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Still, he said in an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0ibpyo51L9c\">ABC News interview<\/a>\u00a0he would take the pledge \u201cas seriously\u201d as Trump during the 2016 GOP presidential primaries, when he said he would not commit to backing the eventual nominee.<\/p>\n<p>ABC\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/rnc-present-loyalty-pledge-candidates-after-qualify-debate\/story?id=100440768\">reported Wednesday that<\/a>\u00a0the RNC will not require candidates to sign the pledge until after they meet the polling and fundraising requirements. The RNC did not return a request from The Hill for confirmation.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Asa_Hutchinson\"><\/span><strong>Asa Hutchinson<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R)\u00a0has polled closer to the bottom tier of candidates, but he has received 1 or 2 percent in many polls, which could be enough for him to meet the polling threshold.<\/p>\n<p>But Hutchinson has been critical of both the donor requirements and the loyalty pledge.\u00a0He\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6328697901112\">argued that the<\/a>\u00a040,000-donor requirement would\u00a0penalize candidates who are just building up their campaigns while emphasizing online donations, and that some candidates might want to choose other ways to spread their message.<\/p>\n<p>Hutchinson also said he would\u00a0prefer a different pledge \u2014\u00a0to not run as a third-party candidate \u2014 and\u00a0reportedly\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/06\/15\/rnc-loyalty-pledge-requirement-after-trump-indictment-00102325\">tried to get the RNC<\/a>\u00a0to amend the pledge to not count\u00a0for convicted felons if Trump is found guilty of the charges he is facing. But the RNC refused to amend it.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Larry_Elder\"><\/span><strong>Larry Elder<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Conservative radio talk show\u00a0host Larry\u00a0Elder\u00a0has not been included in many polls, but\u00a0when he has been, he has registered 1 percent support a few times.\u00a0The period in which candidates\u00a0have to\u00a0meet the polling requirements began Saturday and runs until\u00a048 hours\u00a0before the debate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Elder has criticized the debate requirements, calling them \u201conerous\u201d in\u00a0an\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tIgRELItywA\">interview with NewsNation<\/a>\u00a0last month.\u00a0But\u00a0he said he would \u201cwork hard\u201d to meet the criteria and make the debate stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said the amount a contributor gives can be as low as $1 for them to count toward the donor threshold.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Elder appears to be willing to agree to the loyalty pledge, as a representative for him\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/06\/15\/rnc-loyalty-pledge-requirement-after-trump-indictment-00102325\">told Politico that<\/a>\u00a0he did not support amending the pledge following Hutchinson\u2019s push for reform after Trump\u2019s\u00a0indictment.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Doug_Burgum\"><\/span><strong>Doug Burgum<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The North Dakota governor\u00a0has reached 1 percent a few times in certain national or state polls, but the specific requirements of what types of polls qualify could matter for Burgum\u2019s prospects of making the debate.<\/p>\n<p>The RNC will only\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/gop.com\/press-release\/rnc-announces-criteria-and-date-for-first-debate-in-milwaukee\/\">recognize a poll<\/a>\u00a0if it is conducted among at least 800 registered\u00a0likely Republican\u00a0voters, among other conditions,\u00a0so his opportunities for qualification could be limited.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Burgum\u2019s significant personal wealth could be an advantage toward spreading his message and buying ads, but that wealth will not ensure he finds the\u00a040,000 donors\u00a0he needs. The Grand Forks Herald\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.grandforksherald.com\/news\/north-dakota\/the-gop-doesnt-let-anyone-on-the-presidential-debate-stage-heres-how-doug-burgum-can-qualify\">reported that Burgum<\/a>\u00a0is\u00a0using text\u00a0messages to sell American flags for $1 for a\u00a0Fourth of July fundraising drive and is selling other campaign merchandise to get donors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Burgum said during an interview on \u201cGood Morning America\u201d shortly after he joined the race that he would support whoever wins the GOP nomination.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Francis_Suarez\"><\/span><strong>Francis Suarez<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Suarez is well known in Florida as a two-term mayor of Miami and the son of a former mayor, but he does not currently have much of a national profile.\u00a0He has much more commonly received 0 percent in polls than 1 percent when he has been included, and he joined the race\u00a0on\u00a0the later end in an already crowded field.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Suarez is also taking the $1-donation request approach like some other candidates are, asking visitors to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.itstimewegetstarted.com\/\">his campaign website<\/a>\u00a0for just that amount to get him on the debate\u00a0stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/06\/15\/rnc-loyalty-pledge-requirement-after-trump-indictment-00102325\">told Politico in response<\/a>\u00a0to Hutchinson\u2019s push for the RNC to amend the loyalty pledge that doing so now would be \u201cfoolish\u201d as Trump is presumed innocent until found guilty.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Will_Hurd\"><\/span><strong>Will Hurd<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Former Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) will\u00a0almost certainly\u00a0not be on the stage for the first debate in August.
