{"id":581612,"date":"2023-07-06T16:22:46","date_gmt":"2023-07-06T13:22:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/pence-defends-actions-to-pro-trump-voter-who-confronts-him-over-jan-6\/"},"modified":"2023-07-06T16:22:46","modified_gmt":"2023-07-06T13:22:46","slug":"pence-defends-actions-to-pro-trump-voter-who-confronts-him-over-jan-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/pence-defends-actions-to-pro-trump-voter-who-confronts-him-over-jan-6\/","title":{"rendered":"#Pence defends actions to pro-Trump voter who confronts him over Jan. 6"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/pencemike_062323gn10_w.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former Vice President Mike Pence defended his actions presiding over Congress\u2019s certification of the 2020 Electoral College results to a pro-Trump voter during a campaign stop in Iowa on Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pence was holding <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/video\/voter-in-iowa-questions-mike-pence-about-his-actions-on-jan-6-186920005655\">a campaign event<\/a> in Sioux City, where a participant told him that Biden should not be the president and asked if he has ever doubted himself that he had the power to reject the certification of certain states\u2019 results on Jan. 6, 2021, and send them back for further review.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Pence responded that he believes the issue \u201ccontinues to be misunderstood.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know by God\u2019s grace I did exactly what the Constitution of the United States required of me that day,\u201d he said. \u201cI kept my oath.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n        The Hill Elections 2024 coverage<br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Pence said that after Election Day, 60 lawsuits were filed to review the results in various key states that decided the election. He said some \u201celection irregularities\u201d occurred, pointing to instances where states expanded voting by mail in response to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day, when Iowa certified your results and sent them to Washington, D.C., when Indiana certified our results \u2014 the Constitution of the United States, in Article II, it\u2019s the job of the vice president is to serve as the presiding officer of a joint session where you open and count the votes,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t take my word for it. Go read the Constitution,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Former President Trump repeatedly called on Pence to reject the results of the key states that clinched Biden\u2019s victory in the 2020 presidential election and send them back to the states for further review.
