{"id":582041,"date":"2023-07-09T17:15:00","date_gmt":"2023-07-09T14:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/biden-says-ukraine-not-ready-for-nato-membership\/"},"modified":"2023-07-09T17:15:00","modified_gmt":"2023-07-09T14:15:00","slug":"biden-says-ukraine-not-ready-for-nato-membership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/biden-says-ukraine-not-ready-for-nato-membership\/","title":{"rendered":"#Biden says Ukraine not ready for NATO membership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/07\/bidenjoe_072222_ap_nato.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>President Biden said that he doesn\u2019t think Ukraine is ready for NATO membership, adding that it\u2019s premature to call for a vote to accept the war-torn country into the alliance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s ready for membership in NATO,\u201d Biden told CNN in an interview that aired on Sunday.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The president added that he doesn\u2019t think there\u2019s \u201cunanimity in NATO about whether or not to bring Ukraine into the NATO family now, at this moment, in the middle of a war.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s comments come as he\u2019s set to leave for Europe and attend the NATO summit in Lithuania on Tuesday where Ukraine\u2019s membership as well as Sweden\u2019s is expected to be front and center of discussions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s premature to say \u2014 to call for a vote\u2026there\u2019s other qualifications that need to be met, including democratization and some of those issues,\u201d Biden told CNN.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we have to lay out \u2026 the rational path for Russia \u2014 for, excuse me, for Ukraine \u2014 to be able to qualify to get into NATO,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The president last month said\u00a0he won\u2019t make it easier\u00a0for Ukraine to join NATO, noting that the country has to meet the requirements to be a member. But, he also at the time expressed confidence that the membership will h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en.<\/p>\n<p>He noted to CNN that NATO members have a responsibility to defend each other so accepting Ukraine into NATO while it is still fighting war means they would all be at a war with Russia. Biden said when it comes to Sweden, however, he was \u201coptimistic\u201d that country could attain membership.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re determined to commit every inch of territory that is NATO territory. It\u2019s a commitment that we\u2019ve all made, no matter what. If the war is going on, then we\u2019re all in a war.
