{"id":583215,"date":"2023-07-18T04:13:26","date_gmt":"2023-07-18T01:13:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/jordan-threatens-fbis-wray-with-contempt-of-congress\/"},"modified":"2023-07-18T04:13:26","modified_gmt":"2023-07-18T01:13:26","slug":"jordan-threatens-fbis-wray-with-contempt-of-congress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/jordan-threatens-fbis-wray-with-contempt-of-congress\/","title":{"rendered":"#Jordan threatens FBI\u2019s Wray with contempt of Congress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/07\/wraychristopher_071223tc15_w.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) threatened Monday to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress for what he claims is the agency\u2019s \u201cwholly inadequate\u201d compliance with two subpoenas issued earlier this year. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe write to notify you that if the FBI does not improve its compliance substantially, the Committee will take action \u2014 such as the initiation of content of Congress proceedings \u2013 to obtain compliance with these subpoenas,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/2023-07-17-jdj-to-wray-re-contempt.pdf\">Jordan said in a letter to Wray<\/a>, giving the FBI a deadline of July 25 at 12 p.m. to hand over the documents before the committee will \u201ctake action.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The chairman claimed this comes after \u201cseveral accommodations, months of persistent outreach by the Committee, and attempts to negotiate and work with the FBI in good faith.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In February, Wray, along with Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Merrick Garland and Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, were issued subpoenas following a memo from Garland that noted a \u201cdisturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence against school administrators, board members, teachers, and staff.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jordan has previously claimed the memo raises concerns over First Amendment rights. In Monday\u2019s letter, he described the subpoena as connected to \u201cthe FBI\u2019s targeting of concerned parents who speak out at school board meetings.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jordan said the FBI failed to \u201csufficiently comply on a voluntary basis,\u201d stating the FBI turned in only four redacted pages of school board-related documents by the March 1 deadline. The committee agreed to accept documents on a rolling basis as an accommodation to the FBI, according to Jordan. <\/p>\n<p>Jordan said the committee later received only ten more pages on March 8 and accommodated the FBI\u2019s request to view an additional 346 pages in camera instead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FBI\u2019s\u00a0productions to date have not included material the Committee knows is, or has reason to believe may be, in the FBI\u2019s possession and that is responsive to the subpoena,\u201d Jordan wrote, listing off types of documents the FBI \u201cmight possess.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Later in April, Jordan issued a second subpoena to Wray in connection with\u00a0accusations that the FBI had developed an anti-Catholic bias after a now-withdrawn memo out of the Richmond, Va., field office described an\u00a0increasing overlap in white nationalist groups and \u201cRadical Traditionalist Catholics.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Hill has reached out to the FBI for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Wray, a registered Republican and Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointee, has increasingly had to defend himself against GOP accusations of politicization at the bureau, including before Jordan\u2019s committee last week.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cWe opened 25 assessments into reports that were tagged, but none of those involved incidents at school board meetings and, to my knowledge, FBI has not opened investigations on any parent for exercising speech at school,\u201d Wray said.<\/p>\n<p>Of the Richmond Catholic memo, he added, \u201cThat product is not something that I will defend or excuse.
