Through his lawyers he says he prefers to go to trial after voters cast their ballots next year and boasts during his campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earances that he\u2019s on the path to becoming the Republican nominee to challenge <strong>President Biden <\/strong>in 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Trump announced a new hurdle: He received a target letter from federal prosecutors who have been investigating Republican efforts to try to overturn the 2020 election results (The Hill).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><em>\u201cI got the letter on Sunday night. Think of it. I don\u2019t think they\u2019ve ever sent a letter on Sunday night,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> Trump said Tuesday during a town hall in Iowa with Fox News host and ally <strong>Sean Hannity<\/strong>. <strong><em>\u201cAnd they\u2019re in a rush because they want to interfere. It\u2019s interference with the election. It\u2019s election interference. Never been done like this in the history of our country, and it\u2019s a disgrace\u201d<\/em><\/strong><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong>(The Hill and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2023\/07\/19\/trump-fox-news-town-hall-takeaways\/70424873007\/\">USA Today<\/a>).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s disclosure suggests he will soon face felony charges tied to the election he lost. According to some legal experts, and based on news reporting since Jan. 6, 2021, he could be charged with alleged conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstruction of an official proceeding (the 2021 certification of Biden\u2019s Electoral College victory) (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/18\/us\/politics\/target-letter-trump-obstruction-fraud-charges.html\">The New York Times<\/a>).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As The Hill\u2019s Niall Stanage writes, anticipation that Trump will face a new federal indictment means the public spotlight temporarily shifts toward the former president and his campaign, and away from his primary rivals. Trump is leading the GOP primary field, according to recent polls, and his supporters applaud his false assertions that the 2020 election was \u201crigged\u201d against him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Republican National Committee Chair <strong>Ronna McDaniel<\/strong> last week told CNN it\u2019s hypothetical to imagine her party nominating \u201ca convicted felon.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p><em>\u201cIt\u2019s up to the voters,\u201d<\/em> she said during an interview. <em>\u201cThey\u2019re going to make their decision. They\u2019re going to hear this and they\u2019re going to decide if this is an issue for them come November or come the primary process.\u201d<\/em>\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lawfaremedia.org\/article\/a-trump-jan.-6-indictment-appears-to-be-imminent\">Lawfare blog<\/a>: \u201c<em>A<\/em><em> third indictment appears to be forthcoming<\/em>,\u201d Brookings Institution senior fellow <strong>Benjamin Wittes<\/strong> wrote on Tuesday, referring to a target letter Trump said he received with a deadline if he wishes to appear before a grand jury in Washington, D.C. <em>\u201cIt\u2019s reasonable to expect the grand jury to act as early as the end of this week.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Hill: GOP senators hold back on defending Trump as he faces new indictment.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Trump in April was criminally charged in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/manhattanda.org\/district-attorney-bragg-announces-34-count-felony-indictment-of-former-president-donald-j-trump\/\">Manhattan with 34 felonies<\/a> related to filing false business documents, and separately charged by federal prosecutors in June with 37 counts including conspiracy and violations of the Espionage Act tied to his possession of classified documents removed from the White House to his Florida estate.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The former president pleaded not guilty to all charges after his indictments in Manhattan and South Florida and continues to claim he\u2019s the victim of a Democratic \u201cwitch hunt\u201d staged across multiple judicial jurisdictions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the documents case, a federal judge on Tuesday held a pretrial hearing in South Florida with Trump\u2019s lawyers, who want his trial to begin after Election Day next year. Prosecutors have asked to start the trial at the end of this year. Judge <strong>Aileen Cannon<\/strong>, who was appointed by Trump, said she will issue a written order \u201cpromptly\u201d (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/18\/us\/politics\/trump-classified-documents-case.html\">The New York Times<\/a>).\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Pending in Georgia is a separate investigation of Republican actions to try to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. But at the same time I\u2019ve got to focus on looking forward, and that\u2019s what we\u2019re going to do.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With his polling numbers sagging and his opponents on the attack, DeSantis defended his struggling campaign, saying he had been <em>\u201ctaking fire nonstop\u201d<\/em> but was putting together the political operation he needed to win the early primary states next year. Biden and Herzog stressed their countries\u2019 close ties Tuesday despite U.S. tensions with Israeli Prime Minister <strong>Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s<\/strong> government. Tensions between Biden and Netanyahu\u2019s right-wing government have persisted for months, in part over contentious plans for a judicial overhaul and what Biden regards as extremist positions taken by members of the government. Israel\u2019s moves to expand settlements in the occupied West Bank have also drawn criticism from Washington (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/07\/18\/politics\/biden-herzog-white-house\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Biden on Monday invited Netanyahu to visit Washington \u2014 though not necessarily the White House \u2014 before the end of the year (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/18\/us\/politics\/biden-israel-netanyahu-herzog.html\">The New York Times<\/a>).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A handful of Democratic lawmakers have said they would not attend Herzog\u2019s address to Congress. In late June, Secretary of State <strong>Antony Blinken<\/strong> also met there with Xi. Following the latest U.S. senior official visits to Beijing, high-level Chinese officials are expected to visit the U.S. at an unspecified date (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/07\/18\/john-kerry-upholds-us-china-stability-in-symbolic-beijing-visit.html\">CNBC<\/a>).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Russia<\/strong> carried out a wave of attacks across southern and eastern <strong>Ukraine<\/strong> overnight, in what it called a retaliation for Monday\u2019s deadly explosion on the Crimean Bridge, connecting Russia to the illegally annexed peninsula.
