Members of the band were reportedly present during the announcement to show him support.<\/p>\n<p>            \u201cI respect you and believe you deserve to hear this directly from me,\u201d Atae read. \u201cFor years, I struggled to accept a part of myself. But now, after all I have been through, I finally have the courage to open up to you about something. I am a gay man.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            While Japan <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2023\/07\/12\/japan-passes-law-promote-understanding-lgbt-people\">passed a law<\/a> to \u201cpromote understanding\u201d and fight against \u201cunfair discrimination\u201d of LGBTQIA+ people last month, the country still has a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/japan-court-rules-that-not-allowing-same-sex-marriage-is-state-2023-06-08\/\">ban on same-sex marriage<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>            Atae\u2019s public declaration of his sexual orientation in a country with such conservative views was scary for him. \u201cI thought if I was found out, it would end my career, and so I couldn\u2019t tell anyone,\u201d he told the <i>Times<\/i>.
