Prosecutors last month brought charges related to allegations that boxes of classified materials were at times moved in and out of the storage room.<\/p>\n<p>After they issued the subpoena, prosecutors claim Trump sought to meet with Walt Nauta, the former president\u2019s body man and co-defendant in the case. <\/p>\n<p>Nauta then suddenly changed his plans and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ed to Mar-a-Lago from Trump\u2019s Bedminster, N.J., club the next day, where he attempted to delete footage with another employee, according to court filings.<\/p>\n<p>Trump faces two new obstruction charges in connection with the allegations.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Prosecutors_name_new_co-defendant\"><\/span>Prosecutors name new co-defendant<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The superseding indictment added a third defendant to the case: Carlos De Oliveira, the property manager of the hotel.<\/p>\n<p>De Oliveira, 56, was the other employee who allegedly aided Nauta in their attempt to delete the footage.<\/p>\n<p>He faces three charges, including the two obstruction counts prosecutors have newly brought against Trump and Nauta.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>De Oliveira also faces an additional charge of conspiracy to obstruct justice, a charge that were already brought against both the former president and Nauta.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%98The_boss_wanted_it_done\"><\/span><strong>\u2018The boss\u2019 wanted it done<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The indictment alleges De Oliveira extensively pushed Mar-a-Lago\u2019s director of information <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> (IT) \u2014 who was not charged or named in the indictment \u2014 to delete the footage.<\/p>\n<p>As Nauta prepared to head to Florida on a Friday evening, both he and De Oliveira sent text messages to the technology expert suggesting they may need his assistance, according to the indictment. Court filings indicate Nauta traveled to Mar-a-Lago the following day.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>On Monday morning, De Oliveira purportedly asked the IT director to have a private conversation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He also allegedly asked how long the security footage was stored, to which the IT director answered 45 days. The IT director was then told \u201cthe boss\u201d wanted the server deleted, but he said he did not know how to do it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat are we going to do?\u201d De Oliveria allegedly insisted.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The indictment went on to describe the efforts De Oliveira and Nauta took to organize their plans secretly, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>arently walking among the bushes around the IT office where the security footage was managed.<\/p>\n<p>At another point De Oliveira and Nauta purportedly \u201cwalked with a flashlight through the tunnel where the storage room was located, and observed and pointed out security cameras.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Trump_faces_new_charge_over_alleged_Iran_war_plan_presentation\"><\/span><strong>Trump faces new charge over alleged Iran war plan presentation<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Prosecutors also brought another charge against Trump unrelated to the security footage revelations.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The superseding indictment adds a 32nd count of willfully retaining national defense information, one more than previously.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new Espionage Act charge corresponds to a record Trump allegedly described in a July 2021 meeting with a book author and publisher at his New Jersey club. Portions of the transcript were included in the original indictment, and CNN published an audio recording late last month.<\/p>\n<p>The document in question is reportedly a secret Pentagon document with plans to attack Iran. Trump had previously said he may not have had a physical document with him at the time.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr7_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI have a big pile of papers, this thing just came up. Look. This was him,\u201d Trump says in the recording, referring to Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley. \u201cThey presented me this \u2014 this is off the record but \u2014 they presented me this. This was him. This was the Defense Department and him.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Prosecutors_say_new_charges_shouldnt_affect_trial_date\"><\/span>Prosecutors say new charges shouldn\u2019t affect trial date<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Prosecutors in a separate court document filed on Thursday evening stressed that the new charges and co-defendant shouldn\u2019t delay the scheduled May 20, 2024 trial date.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[T]he Special Counsel\u2019s Office is taking steps related to discovery and security clearances to ensure that it does not do so,\u201d prosecutors wrote in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.flsd.648653\/gov.uscourts.flsd.648653.86.0.pdf\">court filings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Among the promised measures, prosecutors insisted they would \u201cpromptly\u201d produce materials related to the new co-defendant and the new charges and would im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely arrange for De Oliveira\u2019s lawyer to begin the security clearance process.<\/p>\n<p>The parties in the case have previously battled over the trial date, with Trump\u2019s lawyers seeking a more relaxed schedule.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who is overseeing the case, last week rejected the former president\u2019s legal team\u2019s request to indefinitely delay the matter, but the schedule is months later than prosecutors\u2019 trial date request.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s legal team could attempt to bump back the trial date with various pre-trial motions, a\u00a0move that would push the trial closer to \u2014 or after \u2014 the 2024 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Hill\u2019s Rebecca Beitsch contributed reporting.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar Media Inc.
