\n Brothers Donald Glover and Stephen Glover are teaming up to pen Disney+\u2019s\u00a0Lando<\/em> series<\/a>, The Hollywood Reporter <\/em>has confirmed. <\/p>\n

\n The deal, first reported by Above the Line<\/a><\/em>, was made prior to the Writers Strike, which began in May. Justin Simien, who was previously attached to develop Lando<\/em>, exited the Star Wars project prior to the duo signing on.<\/p>\n

\n Disney announced in December 2020 that the Lucasfilm show was in the works. Donald Glover, who will star in the serious, previously played Lando Calrissian in 2018\u2019s Solo: A Star Wars Story<\/em>. While the film bombed at the box office, Glover\u2019s performance was well received.<\/p>\n

\n The smooth talking smuggler first app<\/a>eared\u00a0in\u00a0The Empire Strikes Back<\/em>, with original Lando actor Billy Dee Williams returning for Return of the Jedi<\/em> and The Rise of Skywalker<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n During a recent interview with THR<\/em>, Simien spoke about the Lando <\/em>project, and said he was uncertain about its future.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cThe last thing I was told was that they loved it but needed to put a pin in it until they could figure out everybody\u2019s availability,\u201d Simien said. \u201cI haven\u2019t investigated further, but I\u2019m not an idiot. I\u2019m not alone in that experience. But I can\u2019t help but wonder, \u2018Am I too Black? Am I too queer? And people just don\u2019t want to say that?\u2019 Because it seems like I develop things with these companies and they just never happen for reasons unknown.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n As for Donald Glover, who along with his brother has an overall deal with Amazon, he has indicated that he was still interested in the project. <\/p>\n

\n Said the actor in an April interview with GQ<\/a><\/em>: \u201cI\u2019m not interested in doing anything that is going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I would much rather spend time with people I enjoy. It just has to be the right thing, which I think it could be. Lando is definitely somebody I\u2019d like to hang out with. We\u2019re talking about it. That as much as I can say.\u201d<\/p>\n
