\n Seth Rogen is always looking for a good indie comic to adapt for the screen, but he has a reason for avoiding Marvel and DC comics. <\/p>\n

\n During a recent interview with Polygon<\/a><\/em>, the actor-writer-producer, who is currently preparing for the release of his latest animated movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem<\/em> on Aug. 2, revealed why \u201cfear\u201d has turned him off from teaming up with these other major movie franchises.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cWe really have a pretty specific way we work; me and Evan [Goldberg] have been writers for 20 years at this point,\u201d he explained. \u201cIt\u2019s a fear of the process, honestly. And I say that knowing nothing about the process. There are a lot of Marvel things I love.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Rogen continued, \u201cIt\u2019s mostly a fear of how would we plug into the system they have in place, which seems like a very good system, and a system that serves them very well. But is it a system that we would ultimately get really frustrated with?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n The Platonic<\/em> star emphasized that he and his writing partner prefer to feel like they have control and creative freedom with the projects they take on.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cWhat\u2019s nice about [Mutant Mayhem<\/em>] is that we\u2019re the producers of this,\u201d he added. \u201cSo we dictated the system, and we dictated the process in a lot of ways. And that\u2019s what\u2019s also app<\/a>ealing for us about\u00a0The Boys<\/em>\u00a0and the other bigger franchise-y type things we\u2019ve done, is that we are creating the infrastructure and process for them, not plugging into someone else\u2019s infrastructure and process. We\u2019re control freaks!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Earlier this year, Rogen told Total Film magazine<\/a><\/em>\u00a0that he does credit the Marvel Cinematic Universe\u2019s content for making The Boys<\/em>, based on a comic book series<\/a>, possible, saying it \u201cwouldn\u2019t exist or be interesting\u201d without the studio. \u201cI think that Kevin Feige is a brilliant guy, and I think a lot of the filmmakers he\u2019s hired to make these movies are great filmmakers,\u201d he said at the time. \u201cBut as someone who doesn\u2019t have children \u2026 It is [all] kind of geared towards kids, you know? There are times where I will forget. I\u2019ll watch one of these things, as an adult with no kids, and be like, \u2018Oh, this is just not for me.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n When it comes to finding comics that do pique his interest, Rogen told Polygon<\/em> that he first, looks for anything that\u2019s not Marvel or DC which \u201celiminates a lot right away,\u201d and then seeks comics that have room for expansion.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI would go to the comic book shop [when I was younger] and I would just walk around. And you see this<\/em> comic book and it catches your eye, and you see\u00a0that\u00a0<\/em>comic book and it catches your eye,\u201d he said. \u201cThose have been the things that have really inspired us and made us want to work on these things for a long time \u2014 coupled with the inclination that you have something to add to it. There are a lot of comic books I love and things I love, but I\u2019m like,\u00a0What would I add?<\/em>\u201c<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
